In the last 12 months 11 year old Olivia Bouler has cleaned up a gulf beach with the Jonas brothers and appeared on the Today show. She recently released a book called Olivia’s Birds: Saving the Gulf and she’s been praised for the book in Publishers Weekly. Quite a lot for an 11 year old who a year ago was virtually unknown.
This all started when Olivia who is a bird lover and hopes to one day become an ornithologist wrote a letter offering her help during the massive and devastating oil spill last year. Olivia is an artist and offered to donate some bird paintings to help with the cleanup.
Her offer hit the news and before long Olivia had more work than she could handle. In a very short time she had raised more than 150,000 to help with the cleanup efforts. Since that time Olivia has done many things to help with the cleanup and all because she loves birds.
Her parents say that Olivia has not changed a bit and is still the same sweet girl she was before any of this happened.
Olivia does admit to being in awe recently though. It wasn’t as you would think because she met the Jonas Brothers. It was actually because she got to see her first Cedar Wax-Wing on a visit to the Cornell lab of Ornithology.
Olivia will be traveling this summer to Costa Rica where she will give out copies of her books and hopes to see more rare birds for the first time.
