“I’m sorry but I cannot tip because I do not agree with your lifestyle and the way you live your life,” the note read.
Morales, who is a lesbian, also sent to the LGBT group Have a Gay Day’s Facebook page. Over 3,000 comments were posted and the posting rapidly spread across the Internet.
Offended by the message, Morales added in the comments of her post how angry and surprised she was. She was hurt that the customer’s children will probably grow up with the parent’s same belief system. She went on to say that she was angry and hurt that she served in the Marines “to keep ignorant people like them free.”
People around the globe have reached out to Morales with support both emotionally and financially. In a PayPal account she created, donations of more than $1,000 have been received. She plans to donate some of what she receives to Wounded Warrior Project, a program that helps transition wounded servicemen and women from military to civilian life. She is also considering donating some of the proceeds to an LGBT organization.
While she has appreciated the support she received from around the world, some as far away as South Africa and Germany, it has been the support closer to home that really surprised her.
The restaurant where the affront occurred compensated her for the lost tip money immediately. They have also pledged to match any charitable donations she makes as a result of this.
