Cliff Forrest Jr. is a 10 year old boy with a very impressive sports memorabilia collection but this week he is making news for what he gave away out of his collection. Cliff Jr. purchased a Super Bowl ring earlier this year for just $8500 and now he has officially given it back to the original owner, William Perry.
Cliff decided after purchasing the ring that he wanted to give it back to Mr. Perry because of some special circumstances. Just three years ago Perry was diagnosed with a crippling immune system deficiency which required substantial funding to fight; as a result Perry was forced to sell many of his prized NFL items to raise money.
Cliff Jr. found out about this while researching the ring and Perry’s history as a player; Cliff Jr. decided to do what he could to help. Cliff Jr.’s mother was diagnosed with a similar disease recently and he said he felt it was his duty to help Mr. Perry in any way he could so returning the ring was an obvious choice.
Cliff Sr. has said in many interviews that originally he was far from happy about dipping into his son’s college savings to purchase the super bowl ring, but after Cliff Jr. announced that he wanted to buy the ring so he could give it back his father said he just couldn’t say no. This week Cliff Jr. and Sr. met with Perry to give him the ring and in return they got a few other various items as well as an unforgettable experience with an NFL legend.
