This week Trevor Sullivan of Detroit Michigan is making headlines for a video that was taken of him just after surgery. Trevor is 15 and was in desperate need of a heart transplant, after months of waiting on the transplant list, Trevor finally got the heart he needed and was scheduled to go into surgery. As with any patient, Trevor admits that he was scared going in but he knew that it was the only way he could survive. That is precisely why the video his dad took right after the surgery is so heartwarming and amazing to watch.
As Trevor woke up he made a very quick realization, he was alive. At that moment Trevor expressed nothing but sheer joy at the fact that he was alive, nothing else in the world mattered to the young teen and he could do nothing other than express his excitement at simply being alive. This is not an emotion or feeling that most people ever have the ability to express and Trevor says that now, even days after his surgery he still feels absolute joy over the fact that he is alive and can continue to live his life. Trevor and his family are also taking the opportunity to use this as a way to encourage people to become organ donors. Had it not been for an organ donor Trevor would never have received the heart transplant that is ultimately keeping him alive.
Organ donors are a big part of the medical industry, there are thousands and thousands of successful transplants every year and without organ donors none of those would be possible. Trevor and his family encourage anyone eligible to at least consider becoming an organ donor because you never know just how many lives you could possibly save. Trevor’s sheer excitement at surviving is a feeling that many organ donors exhibit after they finally receive the transplant they’ve been waiting for so long, and the fact is that every single person has the ability to help another human in the very same way.
Check out Trevor’s video and see just how excited he was. It’s pretty incredible to realize that a 15 year old boy is excited solely for the fact that he’s alive and will get to see his family and friends another day. Trevor is recovering very well and doctors say he’s expected to lead a healthy and normal life after the transplant. All of this was thanks to an organ donor and some incredible surgeons that made it all happen.
