18-year-old Gerardo Marquez was with his friends when he came across an envelope in a parking lot with $800 stashed inside.
It would have been all too tempting to keep this amount of money. After all, who would have known he’d found it? But he did the right thing – he chose to – and that’s a lovely and thoughtful thing for him to do.
He reported the found money to the police. The officer he got through to was surprised as they usually don’t receive calls of that nature, particularly from teenagers. Well, he needs to give teens more credit then.
The news reporter in the video says that in the middle of reporting the story, a lady came out of the store the reporter was standing in front of and said she knew who the money belonged to (her manager).
The reporter got Gerardo and the lady in touch with each other. When notes were compared, it turned out her claim was true.
Her manager had lost the envelope on his way to the bank. He was relieved and really grateful for the gesture and offered $100 to Geraldo as a thank you.
Geraldo said it’s really no big deal what he did: “I just did what I would expect from other people to do for me”.
His mum’s real proud of him too. Rightly so.
Fine young man.
