A Green Bay, Wisonsion family has heroically established a memorial fund in honor of their slain son turning a grim circumstance into a small burst of positivity.
John M. Kennedy’s family established a memorial fund, in his name, in hopes that their efforts will help families who have had a loved one taken away by hit and run traffic accidents. The Green Bay native was sadly hurt and ultimately perished due to a hit-and-run in January near Green Bay.
Nearing his twenty-first birthday, John would have celebrated on this coming Friday, December the 2nd.
Now John’s family will be honoring his birthday instead of celebrating in the traditional way. To honor his memory, they will make a sizable donation to the organization CrimeStoppers, which proved instrumental in bringing those responsible for the hit-and-run to justice.
Snow had made driving conditions perilous when a small truck struck Kennedy forcing him to bring the wheelchair he used on to the street.
Through CrimeStoppers public outreach and various calls into the community to find those responsible for the fatal crash, a tip was given which led to the arrest of the driver responsible. The driver may possibly have escaped in not for the organization.
“He never would have been found.” Jeff Kennedy, John’s dad, said.
The guilty party had already fixed the vehicle involved in the crash which would have made an easy identification rather hard. Without Crimestoppers it is likely that he would have went free.
As a way to give back to the organization that brought the man to justice the Kennedys have began raising money for CrimeStoppers. Through, what they are calling the John M. Kennedy Memorial Fund, they wish to help continue work that the Crimestoppers works to accomplish on a volunteer basis.
“I guess what we want to do is some more positive things.” Colleen Kennedy, John’s mother said.
After the conviction of the hit-and-run driver, the family decided to start raising the money.
“I think he’d be very happy. He was always giving,” his mom remembered. Knowing that her son would approve of creating even the smallest bit of good out of the truly terrible.
