A Great Dane named Scooby in Chicago should get a lot more than a Scooby snack for what he did this week. The black Dane, who weighs 260 pounds, helped to rescue a 14-year-old girl from being sexually assaulted on Jan. 7.
The teen had just gotten off the city bus and was headed down the street when a man rushed up to her, grabbed her and tried to rape her. She screamed for help, and luckily Scooby and his master, Augustin Zamora, rushed to her aide.
Scooby and his owner were walking nearby when they heard the girl’s screams and went to see what was going on. Zamora turned Scooby loose and the dog chased after the would-be assaulter. Soon, the brave dog had the would-be rapist cornered in an alley and held him at bay until the police got there to arrest him.
Police took the man to jail, where he was charged with attempted criminal sexual assault and bail was set at $200,000 during a court hearing later in the afternoon. A check on the man’s previous record turned up information that showed he had been arrested multiple times and had also served a jail sentence of drug charges.
The 14 year old girl is doing well and was only bruised thanks to a big black dog and his owner in Chicago. Scooby and his owner say they were only glad to help.
