For one English teenager named Alice Pyne, each day is a blessing and a struggle. For the last four years, she has been embroiled in the battle of her life against a deadly form of cancer that is now spreading throughout her young body.
At her mother’s suggestion, the 15-year-old began a blog. She called it: Alice’s Bucket List, and it included the things she would like to do. Two items on her list were swimming with sharks and having everybody sign up as bone marrow donors.
Alice’s Bucket List has become a viral sensation, attracting people from all over the globe, including pop star, Katy Perry. The Internet has connected Alice with hundreds of thousands of caring sympathizers, and even Britain’s Prime Minister has responded to Alice’s Bucket List. Many people, connected only by the thread of Alice’s words, have left messages of support on her blog and a myriad of fans have even offered to help her tick off some of the items on her list.
Alice knows her days are numbered, but somehow writing the blog has given her a vitality and sense of purpose no medical treatment ever could. This bucket list and the wonderful response it has received from total strangers all over the world has brought a smile to the lips of this young girl whose love of life and will to live is as strong as her brave acceptance of death.
One thing Alice is very clear about. She is not seeking anyone’s pity or money. Her purpose is to raise awareness and have others use her story to help those in need.
Hang in there, brave girl. You are already an inspiration to all who are fortunate enough to cross your path and bask in your light.
