Times are hard for Hayden Carlo and his family – money goes in, money goes out. So it was the last thing he needed when he was stopped by a police officer for an expired car registration sticker.
Hayden explained he hadn’t paid because he couldn’t afford to – it was a choice between him feeding his children and paying for registration. The decision was clear as it would be for most parents.
The officer gave him a citation and Hayden thought that was that. But when he opened it, to his surprise, there was a $100 bill in it!
Hayden was literally overcome by the gesture.
The officer didn’t share what he did. It’s not uncommon for people who do a good deed to do that. But Hayden’s grandfather was so touched by what that guy did that he wrote his thanks to the police department.
Though the officer chose not to be identified, the department plan to honour him for what he did. The officer said he did what he did because he felt Hayden needed the money more than he did and that it felt right to do that.
With the $100 Hayden was gifted, he updated his registration AND his wife’s too.
Hayden said, “He helped me out when I needed it and I appreciate that. I’ll never forget that”.
