Rachelle and Scott Atkinson had their suspicions when their $4500 wedding ring went missing in their Albuquerque home. After searching the room and the home diligently and coming up empty, the couple turned their gaze to their beloved 10 month old Basset hound, Coraline. With no one else in the room at the time of the disappearance, Atkinson looked at the dog, the only other being present and saw a look of guilt on the pooch’s face.
To confront their suspicions, the dog was transported to the vet for confirmation. X-rays revealed the ring was indeed lodged deeply in the dog’s stomach. Since all indications were that it was not likely to come out by natural means, the ring was removed by the vet. He informed the couple that Basset hounds sometimes eat rocks.
These days, when the ring is not being worn, it is safely hidden far from Coraline’s roving taste buds.
