It was the Greek philosopher, Plato, whose detailed writings and maps more than 2,500 years ago, remain the only historical documentation of events surrounding the existence and demise of this mysterious city. His Dialogues from circa 360 BC provide detailed accounts of an incredible metropolis, located in front of the Straits of Hercules (Straits of Gibraltar).
The existence of Atlantis is still the subject of much debate. Whispers of an incredibly intelligent and gifted populace far ahead of its time in terms of technological advancements, has continually cultivated the imagination of the modern world. The fate of Atlantis, if it did exist, could well have been as scientists predict, for tsunamis in the region have been documented for hundreds of years.
The mystery of Atlantis may well have finally been solved. The research team found the suspected site just north of Cadiz, Spain, via a satellite photo, which revealed the remains of a city long buried among the dense marshland of the Dona Ana Park. The multi rings around the city, which were described by Plato, may well mark the spot of the mystical dominion.
Further excavations of the area are expected in the near future.
One can only wonder if any of Japan’s lost empires lie at the bottom of the rubble and will comparable treasures, long hidden, be uncovered by the aftermath of terrible tsunami that struck it shores last week.
