A small aircraft in a remote part of Peru was in desperate need of taking off as it was carrying sick patients onboard – a mother and her newborn as well as a teenager. The pilot needed to get them to a hospital. However, the problem was with no adequate lighting on the runway, he was unable to take off.
So the local radio station had the idea to send a message out to drivers asking for their help. In under a half hour, roughly 300 drivers turned up on the runway. Using their headlights, they lit it up, enabling the plane to depart.
The drivers’ headlights played a key role in the plane being able to eventually take off. Absolutely. However, big hearts and a great sense of community and responsibility were key too. What they did, the force in which they gathered, and the short time in which they did so, shows the strength of human kindness and compassion.
Hopefully all three patients are healing up good.
