This is so beautiful. A couple of people walked through the streets of Sondrio offering the general public free hugs. No strings attached. Just hugs for the sake of…love, humanity, warmth, comfort, happiness, connection, selflessness, giving for giving’s sake.
Initially, no one seemed that interested, people looked and walked by without a pause in their pace. Others stared.
Then a waiter took one of the huggers up on their offer. And then a couple with a pram stopped – the man went over and hugged. Then a lady was gently coaxed to come over for one and it just went on from there – men, women, old, young and very young all hugging each other.
Some touching moments were when little girls were hugged. One elderly woman did a little sashay as she walked away after a hug. One hugger bent over and embraced a man in his wheelchair. And a particularly funny moment was when two guys ran towards each other for a hug!
The smiles – the smiles on some of these people’s faces when they embraced was one of openness and joy, like they needed it, like they knew each other. Wrapped in that moment of holding and being held, they seized to be strangers to each other.
