A lot of children get money as a Christmas gift and they usually spend it on things like a new video game or maybe an iPod, etc. But an 11-year-old girl in Harbor Beach, Michigan is giving her $75 to help others.
Jada Learman has been volunteering at the Harbor Beach and Port Hope Ministry Food Bank since she was nine. She not only makes frequent donations, she does everything that any other regular volunteer does there such as administrative duties, working on the computer, putting things on shelves and helping to organize the donations that come in.
According to others at the Food Bank, Learman is there so much of her time that she knows exactly what is going on and no one has to show her anything or tell her what to do at all. About the only thing she can’t do, said one volunteer, is reach to the top shelf. For that she needs help.
Learman said when she first started working at the food pantry, she wasn’t sure she would like it or not, but once she got going, she really liked it and so kept on going there to help out.
She said that once she understood how much help the people needed and that she knew she was able to do the job, that it motivated her to keep on coming back again and again to help.
Learman’s mother, Christina, says that she is more than proud of her daughter and just can’t believe just how much her little girl does to make a difference at the food bank.
Her parents have always set the example for their daughter, as the whole family has a strong belief in helping other people.
