His name is Billy Ray Harris. And what he did, homeless or not, is beautiful.

Last month, Billy was sat begging for change. A passerby, a woman (Sarah Darling), gave him some – a kind gesture. However, she was completely unaware that with the money she gave him, she also dropped in her diamond engagement ring. How it happened? Well, she had taken off her rings a short time before and had placed them in her purse. As she dug into her purse and poured her change over to the Billy’s cup, one of the rings went in, the engagement ring.

Neither of them realised what happened at the time. Billy noticed the ring an hour later. Sarah noticed it was missing the following day.

Sarah went back to Billy, told him “I may have given you something very valuable”. He replied, “was it a ring?”

You hear the reporter ask why he kept the ring. He said he was raised by his grandfather who was reverend. “Thank the good Lord, it’s a blessing – I do still have some character.”

It’s not the first time Billy’s been a ring saver. Someone lost a ring whilst inebriated. Billy found it, went to look for the owner and gave it back.

(Sarah and her partner set up a fundraising page for Billy, for what he did. They thought they’d raise $1000 at most. As of Feb 27, donations stood at over $160,000!   He’s no less deserving.)
