Neon Yellow shoe laces are being worn by people in high schools and athletic departments across the country in an effort to raise Pediatric Cancer awareness. Go4theGoal is an organization dedicated to supporting research for and assistance to the children and families living with pediatric cancer. Lace up 4 Pediatric Cancer is an annual event that has become a grass roots movement that is sweeping the country.
Pediatric Cancer is the number one killer of children and there has been little change in the treatment of childhood cancer in the past 40 years. The treatments are horrific for the kids and the survivors are usually left with health problems as a result. The worst part is that they have the possibility of developing a secondary cancer as well. Despite all of this, childhood cancer is still underfunded. Unfortunately, because it is childhood cancer, the public thinks that it is intensely funded by the Government. Actually only 4% of the entire budget for cancer research is allocated to pediatric cancer research. Millions of dollars for Pediatric Cancer has been raised over time but that is a small amount in comparison to the total dollars collected for breast cancer, prostate and other adult cancers. No child should have to face the horror and pain associated with the treatments available to combat the disease. All along, pediatric cancer foundations have attempted to raise awareness and funding for research as well as general family assistance.
Go4theGoal organization is straightforward – help kids and their families living with cancer. The organization Go4the Goal is responsible for the event Lace up for Pediatric Cancer. The event has spread across the country like wildfire. It is an amazing testament to the charitable spirit of the human race when such a simple idea as yellow shoelaces can create such a outpouring of assistance for a single charity .Incredible response to this initiative has been realized by the support received from Youth, High School College and University soccer, football and track teams. The wave of participation has even reached the Marching Bands. Athletes and others are busy swapping their shoe laces or the Neon Yellow laces.
The original grassroots effort is an annual G4G fundraiser. The organization is going to be working with celebrity endorsements and partnerships with vendors and retail business to highlight September as Pediatric Cancer Awareness Month. The idea is to alter the colors annually to encourage continued support and to keep the idea fresh. It is this kind of initiative and tireless work that ensures that Go4theGoal has the potential to make a major impact in the lives of children and families battling Pediatric Cancer.
