Smart phones are getting smarter every day. A new mobile phone application from the Clorox Company will permit iPhone users to access product information while they shop. This will grant them the ability to scan a product UPC code and instantly view and evaluate that particular product’s list of ingredients.
The Clorox Company was the first major consumer packaged goods company to launch a product ingredient communication program in North America. Known as the Green Works Line, it was introduced to the public back in 2008. This program went a step further the following year when it introduced the listing of ingredients of all of its cleaning and laundry products on its corporate web site. Last winter, disclosures became more expansive and included dyes, fragrances and preservatives.
Responding to consumer trends that clearly reflect an increase in smart phone usage, the Clorox Company has created this new mobile tool and its website, which will become active later this year. The new app has become part of the “Ingredients Inside” communication program.
Clorox announced the launch of the new app last week at a Sustainable Fragrances conference that was held in Washington, D.C.
This new app is good news for the savvy consumer whose concern for food purchases goes far beyond bargains and extends more into healthy aspects and nutritional values of the foods they buy. Now all the information they need is at their fingertips, saving time and energy, two commodities the modern consumer greatly appreciates.
