Some brides choose to keep their wedding gowns as a very special memento and also to perhaps one day pass it on to a loved one. Recently married Alissa Walter chose to do the opposite. She decided to give her wedding dress away to someone she’d never met, a bride-to-be who couldn’t afford one herself.
In the video, she’s about to meet the woman she’s going to give the gown to.
Alissa chose to give her wedding dress away because she felt her wedding day was so special that she wanted someone else to feel blessed in the dress. She said, “We had been given so many different things, we had invested in beautiful decorations and this beautiful dress. What better way to use these now than to help them bless someone else.”
When Alissa decided she wanted to give her dress away, she spread the word on Huffington Post who then posted a photo of the gown. She received a few dozen replies and decided to give it to Renee Stroinski, a 25-year-old accounting student who plans to marry in 2014. Her reason for choosing Renee was because she too wanted to give the wedding gown to another bride-to-be after her 2014 wedding – pay it forward.
It’s a beautiful dress. And a very thoughtful gesture: from Alissa for giving it away in the first place – and from Renee who will do for another bride-to-be as Alissa has done for her.
