NFL Presents $30 Million Donation
This week the National Football League announced the biggest and most generous donation in history from the organization. Roger Goodell, the commissioner of the league, made the announcement today and was happy to announce that they would continue to support medical research in a number of ways.
The donation announced today was worth 30 million dollars which will be going directly to the Foundation for the National Institutions of Health which is a part of the Department of Health. The donation will be used for anything the group wishes but much of it is expected to be spent on brain and spinal cord injury research. In the past few years the NFL has been seeing an increase in these types of injuries as have many younger football players in college and high school so the funding will hopefully lead to prevention or better understanding of the issues.
Safety is now and will always be a major concern for the NFL and Commissioner Goodell wanted to make that clear with today’s donation. This funding along with multiple other, smaller donations, will be used to better understand the brain and associated injuries as well as hopefully pioneer some better treatments and diagnoses for these injuries. It will obviously take time for any results to materialize but a gracious donation such as this will obviously do plenty of good for medical researchers.
