Alzheimer’s affects millions of people each year and for a number of reasons it is incredibly crippling. The effects of Alzheimer’s vary from patient to patient and as a result many doctors have trouble effectively treating them, fortunately new research shows that there might be hope after all. Bexarotene is a new drug being developed specifically for Alzheimer’s patients and while it is not being used or tested on humans yet it is proving to be a very promising drug. The drug is currently being tested on mice and the most recent release indicates that it is working even better than previously expected.
Bexarotene itself is actually already approved for use in humans but for a number of reasons it rarely is used. Doctors have now begun to see that, when used properly and in the right dosage it can be incredibly effective. Researchers say that the drug had a nearly immediate impact on the mice they were testing on and after just a short period they showed significant and permanent improvement. If these findings carry over to humans it will be great news for millions of people. Multiple follow up and progressive studies are being conducted in order to determine whether or not the drug is going to be as effective on people but for now doctors are hopeful. If the drug continues to perform this well it will be great news for everyone as it is yet another significant advancement in medical capabilities.
