Science Discovers Link Between Massage and Pain

Massages have been popular for hundreds of years in one form or another and while they have been known to relieve pain quite well they have never actually been scientifically linked to pair relief. Today that has all changed as scientists have officially published a report on massage therapy that does in fact have a medical benefit for sore and painful muscles.

The test was conducted by comparing muscle biopsy data from massaged and unmassaged leg muscles from each participant. Researchers say that the leg muscle that received at least 10 minutes of massaging showed significantly less inflammation and more energy production; both of these signs indicate less pain and faster recovery for the muscles.

This is an incredible breakthrough which will surely help bring pain relief to millions of people. No longer will massages simply be treated as a surface level treatment, especially since they are now proven to actually have a significant impact on muscles on a cellular level. A more significant follow up study is being planned to researchers can begin to compare various types and lengths of massages to determine what other factors play a role in massage therapy and pain relief. Either way it is surely great news for anyone looking for true pain relief for sore or aching muscles. Massage therapy will likely soon be treated as a legitimate medical procedure in many cases and as a result it will probably become more and more popular in the coming years as doctors begin to recommend it.
