Sleep Linked to Health Benefits

Researchers have always known that sleep is important to people’s health and wellbeing but a group of medical studies released this week showed an even stronger connection than previously thought. The studies were focused on children’s education as well as weight gain , and both studies showed that sleeping more is better for everyone.

The first study showed that children that got the recommended amount of sleep were substantially better off in school, which is a big deal. Even 20 or 30 minutes of additional sleep can have a measurable impact on students so doctors recommend that kids get as much sleep as possible each night.

The second study was focused on weight gain in adults and teens, and it once again showed that sleep is an important and vital part of life. Study participants that fell into the sleep deprived category were significantly more likely to gain weight, or have major difficulty losing weight. This is a big breakthrough because in today’s busy world sleep often gets overlooked. Doctors are now recommending that anyone trying to lose weight should attempt to maximize their sleep in any way possible.

Sleep is important and more and more studies are showing that it is absolutely vital for a number of reasons. Getting the recommended 8 or 9 hours of sleep per night can make a big difference and is recommended for anyone.
