Last year, Greg Tung took one of Eleanor Roosevelt’s famous quotes quite literally: “Do one thing every day that scares you”. So every day, for a year, he did just that, he did one thing that scared him. Things he attempted included: playing paintball, sharing a really embarrassing video of himself on YouTube, eating an octopus – alive!, singing a duet, cutting his hair, golfing, trapezing, going to a concert where he knew no-one on the line up, giving blood, climbing a mountain, telling his dad what he thought of him.
How Greg was able to find the focus and energy to keep it up over a year (and that consistently) leaves a lot to be admired. He did blog about it while he was attempting each feat, so perhaps that gave him a sense of accountability. Plus, the more you achieve, the more it gives you the momentum and courage to keep going, to keep attempting the next fear, then the next, then the next.
A very inspiring feat. Hats off to him for having the idea and going for it, for choosing to conquer his fears. He probably isn’t the same person he was just before he started – probably learnt a lot about himself too.
