Greg Rubar works at D’Amico’s, an Italian restaurant in Texas. He’s been working there for 16 years.

A couple who regularly come to the restaurant, and have been for the past eight years, gave him a tip he definitely won’t forget in a hurry. Five thousand big ones!

Who gives a $5000 tip, especially with the way the economy is? Well, this couple does!

Why did they give him that much? Well, there’d been some recent thunderstorms in Houston and Greg’s car had unfortunately been damaged in the midst of it all. The couple gave him the tip so he could buy a replacement car.

When Greg was initially given the money, he didn’t know how much was in it. He probably thought it was just a regular tip. No wonder he was speechless once he realised.

Extremely generous, thoughtful and selfless of the couple to do. The fact they’ve chosen to remain anonymous makes them even more endearing. They weren’t seeking publicity. Merely looking to help a guy out. That’s nice…

Teenagers Linda and Jordan had been waiting for heart transplants at the Children’s Hospital in Texas. They received their transplants in the same month last year – hers from a donor – his, an artificial heart. Because the Children’s Hospital was the first paediatric hospital to have implanted an artificial heart in the US, Jordan became a poster child for the procedure and received national media attention.

Their nurses and physical therapists later thought it would be a great idea if the teens met, possibly not knowing romance would blossom – or maybe they knew all along and wanted to play matchmaker.

Once Linda and Jordan got over the initial awkwardness of meeting for the first time, they soon found they had lots in common, including their experiences with transplant and surgery.

“I’d never met anyone my age who was going through pretty much the same exact thing,” she said. “It was really nice to have someone to talk to who understood what I was going through,” Jordan voiced in agreement.

Five months’ later, Jordan received the donor heart he desperately needed. As they both nursed themselves back to health, their friendship began to grow into something more, and the rest is history.

Ever grateful to the donation of a new heart, a new life, of a future, the teens give back by taking part in organ donor campaigns.

They do make a sweet couple. Here’s to their continued health.
