Wheelchair-bound Student Rescued at Basketball Game by Player…

StumbleUponShare

Things got a bit too excited when a friend wheeled basketball fan Will Privette onto the court to celebrate a victory after a Wolfpack game. Will was actually the one who suggested that he and his friend rush onto the court.

Other people had the same intention. Loads came swarming in excitedly into the middle of the court and before Will knew it, he’d been knocked off his chair, trapped by an extremely exuberant crowd.

Within all the commotion, basketballer C.J. Leslie noticed Will on the floor. He pressed through the crowd and lifted him up.

You’d think Will would appear quite distressed. But no. When he was picked up, he immediately put a cheerful fist in the air and just continued celebrating with everyone else like nothing ever happened!

Leslie and Will cheered together along with the crowd for a few more minutes before Leslie’s arm started to hurt!

It’s a relief Will was noticed and helped out. Things could have panned out differently. All he lost was his glasses, which he recovered anyway. It looks like he’s gained a friend as well. :-)

Shoulderless Chihuahua Gets Her Own Wheelchair…

StumbleUponShare

Meet BeeBee, the cutest little Chihuahua ever. She was born in July with no shoulders, which meant her front legs weren’t of much use to her in terms of mobility.

The lady in the video (Denise) started taking BeeBee to her place of work each day (a nursing home).

Everybody fell in love with BeeBee – it’s quite obvious to see why. She’s a little cutie.

Someone at the nursing home mentioned her son was studying engineering and thought it might be an idea to have a word with one of the teachers at his place of study, in hopes of helping BeeBee with her mobility. Three students helped construct a little wheelchair for BeeBee and taught her how to use it. She took to it like a duck to water!

Watch her moving around in those wheels like she was born with them. She’s a sweetie.

In an effort to familiarize his North Carolina classmates with wheelchair basketball, a 12-year-old boy was working to raise funds for the event when he was robbed of his fund-raising cash.

Nolan Turner was born with spina bifida and had recently gotten involved with the sport which changed his life. His classmates had repeatedly asked about it and Nolan decided to see if he could raise enough money to stage a game locally so they could witness it firsthand.

With his mother, Amy Moore, watching over him from indoors due to her allergies that day, Nolan sat out front of his Cary, N.C. home on March 22 collecting donations. A stranger approached and made idle conversation before snatching the cash jar and making off into the woods with about $250.

Nolan screamed but the man got away. His mother didn’t even realize what had happened until she saw Nolan yelling and then putting his head down on his table. When she went outside, he told her he’d been robbed. Police located the jar with about $100 in change still inside but the cash gone. They continue to search for the man.

Nolan’s goal was to raise $1000 to host a wheelchair basketball event at his Briarwood Elementary School conducted by Bridge II Sports, a non-profit organization dedicated to helping adults and children with challenges be able to play individual and team sports.

Just after the theft, another man approached Nolan and learning of the theft, gave him $60. Since then, as the outside world learned of what happened to Nolan, the support, both emotional and financial, has been overwhelming. His fundraising efforts have now surpassed $25,000. One cruel act has elicited thousands of kind ones.

Turner couldn’t be happier. His classmates will be able to see a wheelchair basketball game close up and personal. Bridges II Sports will host a full-day event at Nolan’s school where the kids can even try the sport out themselves. The extra money will be used to help fund Camp Carefree events. Camp Carefree is a one-week summer camp program for kids with various health problems, which Nolan has attended in the past.

Why is wheelchair basketball so important to Nolan? His mother explains that as they were eating pizza after his very first game, Nolan commented that playing made him feel like a normal person. He’s always been the oddity and this is a place where he can compete and feel good.

Undaunted by his experience, Nolan will next attempt fundraising for track and field wheelchairs which can cost $5000 each. He told his mother he was going to become the Martin Luther King, Jr. of the disabled. Way to go, Nolan.

Woman in wheelchair uses confidence to recalim her life

Rachelle Chapman exudes sec-appeal and confidence fromher wheelchair

Two years ago, Rachelle Friedman was looking forward to her wedding day when a playful push into a swimming pool by one of her bridesmaids at a party left her with a fractured C6 vertebra in her neck. Paralyzed from the collar bone down, she now makes it her mission to let others know they still have the opportunity to lead fulfilling and even sexy lives.

Now married to her then fiancé Chris Chapman, Rachelle Chapman, 26, dreams of motherhood and of teaching other women how to be confident even if they are confined to wheelchairs. Today, she can drive a specially equipped van and through the help of her rehab team at “Project Walk,” has experienced standing and walking with the assistance of specialized machines.

Chapman believes that you can be sexy and beautiful in or out of a wheelchair. Despite your circumstances, you can always have confidence, she says. To prove it, she entered the Ms. Wheelchair Pageant in North Carolina but lost. She is also taking her show on the road by visiting schools where she will read the children’s book “New Opportunities” to help kids understand spinal cord injuries. Next up on her list is writing a book of her own about her experiences. She hopes it will inspire others in her situation.

In the meantime, Chapman continues physical therapy at “Project Walk’’ in Carlsbad, Calif. Her physical therapist, Kimberly Davis wants to help Chapman get into the best possible condition so she can become a mother. Davis believes both the Chapman’s deserve a chance at parenthood and that they will make excellent parents.

Following her injury, Chapman’s wedding was delayed for over a year but her fiancé remained at her side and the two married on July 22, 2011. 1-800-Registry paid for wedding and the honeymoon in Fiji. Since then Chapman has continued to rack up milestones with her progress and her confidence. She has increased her range of motion and her strength in her upper body allowing her to push herself up the ramps in her home. Her confidence and recovery have also allowed her to play on a wheelchair rugby team.

Husband Chris, who claims he is more protective of his wife since her accident, couldn’t be prouder.
