Thomas Weller is known as the Highway Angel. He’s been giving people a hand on San Diego’s highways since 1966. His motivation? A kind soul saved his life four decades ago. Ever since then, he’s been paying the kindness he received forward and asking the people he helps to do the same, encouraging them to not break the chain of compassion.
The card he has in his possession reads:
You don’t owe me a thing, I’ve been there too
Someone once helped me out just the way I’m helping you
If you really wanna pay me back, here’s what you do:
don’t let the chain of love end with you.
Thomas’s car looks really cool, like a Ghostbusters’ automobile!
This is what he lives for, what feeds him. By giving, he actually receives.
“It lifts my spirits. When I get depressed, I go out on the freeway and I help one person, and I come back lifted.”
He plans to do what he’s been doing for as long as he can.
The picture of him and his dog is a beautiful one. (at 1:33)
Unfortunately, he can’t go out and help people as much as he used to because of the price of gas. But he does what he can.
