Zue Shumei has been playing basketball for the past 23 years and she doesn’t look to be stopping anytime soon. And why ever should she!
She’s known as “the Basketball Granny”! Everyday like clockwork, she’s at the basketball court at 7am and goes for 200 shots, most of which she gets into the hoop.
Not only that, she also regularly uses a pole and bars to strengthen her muscles.
Students from Zhejiang Normal University are inspired by Zue. It’s easy to see why. She comes across as someone with a determined spirit.
She’s also living with cataracts and heart problems amongst other health issues, which makes her daily basketball playing all the more inspiring.
Zue can hardly cover the cost of her medication, so her son supports her. What’s beautiful though is that some of the students from the university did a fundraiser for her.
Zue said she felt bad taking money from them as they’re students. However the students appear to be as stubborn as she is and plan on doing some more fundraising for her in the future. Student, Song Huating, said “If we are to hold more donation events in the future, we will let others know on micro-blogs. We hope that we can help her solve her fundamental problems.”
An inspiring story: one, for what Zue has been doing for the past 23 years – and two, for what those students have done and want to do for her.
