This touching tale comes from British Columbia but May the poodle is quite a girl and an honorary American in her own special way. She appeared on the grounds of a nursing home in Sechelt, last week in very poor physical condition. She suffered from deep gouges on her back and several broken ribs, injuries suggesting she was attacked by a bird of prey.
The British Columbia Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals examined the dog, which had no identification and they gave her the name, May” for the month in which she was found.
Rescuers believed May to be a stray, and she suffered from other things besides the injuries she sustained in her fall. Not only were most of her teeth badly decayed, all of the poor dog’s nails were so long that they were actually growing into her paw pads.
In a very odd twist of fate, the bird that attacked her may very well have saved her life for it dropped her where help was available. A local hospital took care of May’s broken ribs and torn paw pads, but the SPCA needs help to cover the US $3,580 for her dental work.
May has found friends in her hour of need and an indomitable will to persevere despite extreme odds. It is hoped that someone will adopt the adorable toy poodle and give her the love and attention she so desperately deserves.
There is just “arf, arf” to say to those who have been kind enough to help her already.
Good luck, May!
