Couple Saves Family In Sinking SUV
When Mike and Nicolle Peterson went jogging Monday they had no way of knowing they would be heroes before the morning was done. Instead of a routine jog they pulled a family from a sinking SUV in the lake.
Mike and Nicolle are both employed by the Auburndale Florida Police department. Nicolle is a compliance officer while Mike is a detective Sargent.
The couple do everything together even saving lives it seems. Mike and Nicolle were taking an early morning jog when they watched as an SUV suddenly struck a tree and rolled into Lake Stella.
Elizabeth Zabel the driver of the SUV had apparently blacked out from a medical condition at the wheel of the SUV. Her children 13 year old Justin and 7 year old Jake were left panicking in the back seat as the car started to sink below the surface.
Mike and Nicole jumped into the lake that is rumored to house alligators and snapping turtles to save who they could.
The back window was broken in the impact so Mike and Nicolle pulled the boys through the window. Nicolle having two children of her own of course went for the children first. Elizabeth managed to free herself and the crew swam back to shore. They only suffered minor injuries.
The story of this couples selfless act, when they could have been in danger their own selves, goes to show that there are indeed good Samaritans left in the world. That they were off duty and there at just the right time is nothing short of a miracle.
