A new drug being developed to fight cancer in some patients may actually have more uses than originally intended. The drug was designed to stop blood from flowing to fatty cells and tissue to reduce cancer growth and researchers have found that in most lab studies it also serves as an incredibly effective weight loss system.

The idea is sound, according to most doctors; by reducing blood flowing into fatty cells the drug is essentially able to destroy and remove any cells that are primarily fat. This means that not only will patients begin to see a loss in fatty cells, they will also see significant and safe weight loss in most cases. This is great news as it is the first drug of this type to actually work well.

The drug is currently being lab tested with monkeys and researchers say that the results are absolutely astounding. Tests have shown that significant weight is possible because fat is basically melted away through blood and oxygen starvation. Obviously it will be quite some time before this treatment is available for humans but doctors say that under proper supervision and control it is incredibly likely that this could become a viable emergency weight loss treatment. Future studies are being planned using the drug to specifically test for weight loss and if the results are good it is only a matter of time before the drug moved on to human testing and eventually the open market.
