Study Shows That Weight Loss Helps Memory

Obviously being overweight already has plenty of disadvantages but today a research report published indicates that losing weight may do even more than previously thought. Obviously losing weight is encouraged because being overweight causes various health problems but it turns out weight loss actually helps improve memory function as well as other brain activity.

The study was conducted using a large variety of people that were both overweight and not overweight. The study found that in general people that were overweight had significantly more memory problems than those that were not overweight. More importantly the study showed that as people began to lose weight their memory functions began to recover very quickly and were able to return to normal.

Along with improved memory weight loss patients also showed a substantial decrease in heart health issues; which was already a well known benefit. This just goes to show that losing weight should be a top priority for anyone overweight. The drawbacks to being overweight keep getting bigger and bigger so it only makes sense that eventually the world’s obesity problem will go away.

Researchers not involved with the study have already commented that this is quite a groundbreaking discovery. Linking memory and other brain functions to obesity is quite substantial because of the wide variety of affects it could have. Further follow up studies are being planned right now and will likely be conducted sometime in the near future to see what other parts of the mind might be affected by being overweight or obese.

Tea Helps With Weight Loss

A study released this week by a Japanese research group has shown that drinking tea may have a significant impact when trying to lose weight. Previous research had shown that this was in fact true but the new study actually found out why exactly tea helps with weight loss. Researchers confirmed that many popular types of tea are very rich in compounds that significantly reduce the ability of your body to absorb fat.

Unfortunately the study also confirmed that these positive results are not guaranteed in all cases. Combining things with the tea greatly reduce the health effects and in many cases may actually lead to a decrease in weight loss. Primarily sugar and milk are the biggest problems; obviously sugar is a bad choice because it is not considered healthy. Adding milk is also a bad idea because the proteins in milk completely neutralize any benefits you may gain by drinking the tea.

Obviously it is very good news that researchers have once again found a potential source that may be useful in combating obesity. Unfortunately the fact that over 90% of people mix tea with sugar or milk means that in general very few people are likely to gain anything from the tea they are drinking.

At this point a second set of tests is planned with different types of teas to find which are more beneficial to the drinkers. Japanese and European research teams are hoping that at some point they may be able to extract the beneficial compounds from the tea to make some unique weight loss supplements of some sort.
