Civil Rights Defense Bracelets Developed

Civil Rights Defense Bracelets Developed

Around the world civil rights fighters do not necessarily get the same equal treatment they do in America. In the past 5 years there have been dozens of incidents where civil rights protesters were kidnapped or captured by government or rebel groups and that is exactly what the CRD bracelet was designed to prevent.

The bracelets are small, simple, and cheap, and when forcefully removed or manually activated it will automatically report its GPS position back to headquarters. Many activists feel that this type of security device is very important because it is such a small but effective tool to prevent kidnapping and capture. The wristband, called Project Natalia, was created after a 2009 incident where Natalia Estemirova was kidnapped and killed.

Not only are these bracelets expected to be very popular and helpful for civil rights activists around the world; they are also being marketed towards parents wanting to keep their children safe. The same kidnapping protection features apply easily to children that might be at risk and the tracking and detection system would work flawlessly according to many experts. As a whole this simple design is a big breakthrough that could save thousands of lives all around the world by preventing kidnapping and capture of innocent people.

Sharks Receive International Protection

Sharks Receive International Protection

This week the CITES conference, a major conference on protecting and preserving ocean wildlife, officially added five shark species to the international protection program. This is a big deal because the 5 species in question have been fighting for the protection for nearly 20 years and now it has finally been granted.

Due to the popularity of shark fin many sharks are caught simply for their fins, then thrown back into the ocean. Thanks to the new protection policies for these 5 species marine activists are hopeful that the deadly process will finally be put to a stop. There was significant opposition to the new protected status but experts at the conference decided that the threat is sever enough to warrant international protection. This is absolutely great news because it will keep millions of sharks from being senselessly killed around the world.

Following the addition of international protection, a task force will likely be created to actually enforce the law as well. Shark fishing and shark fin harvesting is expected to become a major international fight in the coming year due to social issues and the CITES conference group hopes that they will be able to police the oceans and cut down on the amount of illegal killing which is absolutely great news.

FTC Expands Children Protection Rules

FTC Expands Children Protection Rules

Children on the internet is becoming more and more of a hot topic as the number of young internet users continues to increase dramatically. Fortunately for parents there are a number of child protection laws on the books already that keep children safe online and just this week the FTC added even more regulations designed to protect children online.

The FTC officially added a number of new protections to the 1998 Children’s Online Protection Act that will protect children on social networking sites as well as add privacy when it comes to apps and data sharing. The idea behind the changes is that more and more children are beginning to use social media so more needs to be done in order to protect them and their personal data.

There were numerous changes implemented and the FTC is hopeful that they will be very successful. Many privacy and security analysts also agree that these will be very beneficial and should help parents feel safer about their children being on the internet. Of course this still won’t make everything perfectly safe for children but it is absolutely a step in the right direction according to nearly everyone so at least for now children are a little safer online.

Egypt Reopens Border with Gaza

Egypt Reopens Border with Gaza

About 4 years ago Egypt closed their borders with the Gaza strip to nearly all citizens and other traffic due to the political unrest in the area. Today however, 4 years later, that border crossing has once again reopened and with it hope has flooded back into the hearts of many in the area.

According to analysts in the area many citizens on both sides of the border were affected greatly by the strong blockade which prevented nearly all traffic from crossing between the two areas. Groups of fully packed busses crossed from both sides of the border to reunite families and friends that may have not seen each other since the border restrictions were put in place.

According to many on the Palestinian side the border reopening is a very big deal for them simply because it opens up a whole new trade market as well as much improved healthcare. Prior to the travel ban many Palestinians traveled to Egypt for medical treatments and many have already been transported to Egypt following the revocation of the travel ban.

Overall political analysts in the area say it is a good sign that the border between Egypt and Gaza has reopened although it is not the end of the story in the area. Political unrest and fighting are still continuing in much of the area and unless more is done analysts say that there will likely not be any sort of resolution anytime soon.
