Gay Marriage Sees Significant Gains

Gay Marriage Sees Significant Gains

Yesterday the United States Supreme Court rules on two major gay rights cases and in the end gay rights activists came out very happy with the results of the two cases. Both cases have been going through the court systems for many years so this was the pivotal moment for both of the cases and in both cases the justices weighed on the side of support. This is great news for Americans that support gay rights as these two cases will in fact be two of the most influential cases for many years to come.

The two cases were very different in terms of what they gained, but they absolutely work together to fight for more equality and rights for gay couples around the United States. One of the rulings made it so it would no longer be legal to prevent gay couples from receiving federal funding and support like other married couples, this is a big step since it is one of the founding principles of marriage as a whole. The other case was less of a federal victory but it essentially allowed California to continue with gay marriage and will likely inspire other states to follow suit, this is absolutely phenomenal news for millions of people.

Morning After Pill Soon to Be Available Easier

Morning After Pill Soon to Be Available Easier

Currently American women are subject to various and confusing laws about birth control and when exactly they are allowed to receive certain types. This has been a big thorn in the side of women’s rights activists but this week the women have finally gotten the right to freedom that they wanted. The freedom came in the form of the morning after pill, currently regulated by age and in some cases prescription, which will soon be available to everyone without any questions.

This is a big deal because even though it is not the safest or even recommended birth control, it is a good option for many people in an emergency case. The pill is effective and safe, has been proven to work, and it will now be available everywhere in the United States without the need for a prescription or parental consent. Women and doctors agree that this is a good step in the right direction, although there were obviously some opponents as well.

The ruling came after nearly a decade of fighting and arguing over the law. The new regulations are expected to be pushed out very shortly, making women and women’s rights activists incredibly happy. This is just another win in the book for women fighting for their rights.

Boy Scouts of America to Allow Gay Members

Boy Scouts of America to Allow Gay Members

For many years the Boy Scouts of America has been struggling with the issue of gay members. For many years the organization has been openly opposed to gay rights and following multiple court cases in the past 10 years it was confirmed that the organization was legally allowed to ban homosexual members. Fortunately today the organization announced that they have decided to change their policy, following a major out crying of support from members.

The proposed rule changes will allow any and all youth members to join regardless of their sexual preference. This is an absolutely huge win for the gay rights community and the entire movement. Earlier this month the Supreme Court began hearing two of the largest gay rights cases in history and while a ruling has not been reached, activists are hopeful that things will go well. This is another major win for the movement.

The rule changes have not officially been approved at this point, but they are being supported by the organization itself. The council will officially vote on the rules in the next month or two and following that the official change will take place. At that time the Boy Scouts of America will finally push past years of discrimination and bigotry.

Civil Rights Defense Bracelets Developed

Civil Rights Defense Bracelets Developed

Around the world civil rights fighters do not necessarily get the same equal treatment they do in America. In the past 5 years there have been dozens of incidents where civil rights protesters were kidnapped or captured by government or rebel groups and that is exactly what the CRD bracelet was designed to prevent.

The bracelets are small, simple, and cheap, and when forcefully removed or manually activated it will automatically report its GPS position back to headquarters. Many activists feel that this type of security device is very important because it is such a small but effective tool to prevent kidnapping and capture. The wristband, called Project Natalia, was created after a 2009 incident where Natalia Estemirova was kidnapped and killed.

Not only are these bracelets expected to be very popular and helpful for civil rights activists around the world; they are also being marketed towards parents wanting to keep their children safe. The same kidnapping protection features apply easily to children that might be at risk and the tracking and detection system would work flawlessly according to many experts. As a whole this simple design is a big breakthrough that could save thousands of lives all around the world by preventing kidnapping and capture of innocent people.

Illegal For Employers to Ask for Facebook Passwords?

Illegal For Employers to Ask for Facebook Passwords?

Illegal For Employers to Ask for Facebook Passwords?

Just last week a number of new outlets broke a story about employers asking potential employees for their Facebook passwords. For a number of reasons this sounds like a terrible idea and a number of people questioned the legality of it but under current laws it is in fact legal. The good news is that today a number of senators and even Facebook itself announced that they will be persuing a new law that would prevent this sort of privacy invasion.

Many employers want access to user’s Facebook pages in order to see anything and everything that is going on, but rights activists say this is a very sever infringement upon our rights. The senators involved today made it clear that they agree and this is great news for everyone because it will most definitely make a huge impact on the online privacy given to users. Facebook is not known for their stance on security but it is very promising to see Facebook supporting this sort of endeavor. Blocking employer’s from being able to ask for Facebook passwords will not completely prevent them from seeing what is happening online, but it will definitely prevent them from encroaching on everyone’s rights and that is absolutely amazing news for everyone and anyone that has a Facebook account. No word on when such a law might be officially presented or formed but it definitely looks like the overwhelming support will make it very possible for a law to be put in place.

Women’s rights has been a hot issue around the work for quite some time and this year the Nobel Peace Prize was awarded to a group of women who have been leading the project in many areas. The Nobel Peace Prize was awarded this week to three women who have become world renowned for their devotion to fair and equal treatment of women; more importantly the Nobel Peace Prize has helped reward the women for the hard work they’ve put in in such an important area.

The women that were awarded the Nobel Peace Prize all originally began fighting for women’s rights in Libya when they stood up to soldiers that insisted on using rape as a weapon to control women. As the women built up more and more of a resistance through women around them they began to make headlines and eventually women slowly began to regain some of the rights they deserved; ever since then the fight for women’s rights in the area and all around the world has been their focus. Throughout the fight the women have always focused on the most basic and most essential rights and this is what helped earn them the Nobel Peace Prize.

The women have all said that it is great to be honored with such a prestigious award but they feel their work is not done. The fight for women’s rights is still very much underway and as such they do not plan to stop the fight anytime soon.
