Fruits and Vegetables Can Fight Depression
Depression and mental issues are common for millions of people, unfortunately a lot of them are hard to diagnose and even harder to treat. The good news is that a study released this week shows that a simple diet change can dramatically improve mental health for many patients. The study showed that patients who consumed proper portions of fruits and vegetables were significantly happier, less likely to be depressed, and less likely to develop various mental health issues.
This is a staggering result that even the doctors in charge did not expect. Apparently there are quite a few things that lead to this increase in happiness, one of the biggest is the obvious health benefits as a whole. People that consume proper amounts of fruit and vegetables are much more likely to be healthy in general and not overweight.
Essentially doctors are recommending that you continue to strive to eat an adequate amount of fruits and vegetables every day. This will not only keep your body healthy, it’ll keep your mind healthy too and that is obviously a big part of life. If you’re not eating enough fruits and vegetables maybe now is the time to get started, especially since the benefits just continue to add up.

E-Cigarette Industry To be Regulated Soon
This week a significant congressional report was released regarding the now booming electronic cigarette industry. At this point electronic cigarettes are essentially unregulated and many health experts have been questioning this for quite some time. The good news is that today the congressional report, along with the world health organization, announced that they have decided to begin pursuing regulation.
Under current rules there are basically no restrictions on sales or marketing of the popular devices, which is partly why they have become so popular with younger users. Based on this week’s report many experts are incredibly hopeful that regulation will help keep the electronic cigarettes away from children. Essentially the congressional report hopes to force the electronic cigarette industry to follow the same regulation as traditional tobacco products. It might be a while before any real rules are set in stone but it is only a matter of time at this point.
This is definitely good news for everyone, because the electronic cigarette has gotten so popular in such a short time. Many medical experts have expressed concern over safety and health risks and this regulation is a step in the right direction for making the entire situation at least a little bit better.

Girl From Texas Becomes Princess for a Day
This week, 5 year old Claire Lankford from Texas saw her biggest dream come true thanks to support from her entire community. Lankford has a rare form of cancer that is difficult to treat and has a relatively survival rate, despite that she has a very positive and upbeat attitude according to doctors and her parents. Fortunately today she got another big boost to her attitude by becoming a princess for the day, and the entire community came out to support her.
Lankford was dressed in her favorite princess gown and the street was lined with boys and girls that came out to dress up as well. The entire community cheered and applauded for her as she rode through town on her very own horse drawn carriage. Lankford’s mother was overwhelmed with emotions and made it clear just how happy she was to see this kind of support for her daughter. This is definitely a very heartwarming story that shows just how much of an impact a small community can have when they get together to support one of their own. Lankford’s cancer treatment is still ongoing, but she is happy knowing that today she was very much a real princess.

Scientists Create New Stem Cells
For many years now researchers have been working on developing various disease cures with stem cells and the results are definitely looking very promising. Unfortunately at the current time stem cells are difficult to capture or grow without damaging the host organism, the good news is that this new breakthrough might be exactly what it takes to bring stem cell research to the front of the research process.
Essentially researchers found an innovative new way to grow stem cells from standard cells in a mouse, they have significant success through repeated testing. Now the research team is beginning to attempt the same procedure using human cells, if they are successful they should quickly and easily be able to develop human stem cells without any real risk. The stem cell research industry has been controversial and complicated for years due to public opinion but this could very well be the next big step forward in what many doctors say is the most promising form of medical research.
The scientists involved are hoping to begin testing the procedure on human cells in the next few months. If this process does in fact work out it will definitely be the best breakthrough the medical industry has seen in quite a long time.

Fish Oil Linked to Brain Health
For years now people have been saying that various fish oils are beneficial or healthy for some reason or another. Just this week yet another medical study came out that indicates that certain fish oils are actually even more beneficial than previously expected. In particular the study was focusing on Omega-3 oils and the study showed that consuming the oil regularly can significantly help slow brain aging in patients.
This is absolutely great news because it not only helps keep the brain a little bit younger, it also helps prevent the onset of problems like Alzheimer’s in older patients. Doctors are still studying the findings further but at this point they’re happy to report that there is absolutely a pretty solid link between the oil and the results. The exact amount of Omega-3 oil required to be beneficial is still undetermined but the study is planning to be continued so that doctors can really pinpoint the benefit point. At this time doctors are continuing to recommend Omega-3 oils for patients and they’ll likely continue to do so long after the new findings come out.
This is absolutely another sign of medical advancement that is great news. Only time will tell just how many other benefits Omega-3 oils have but this is definitely a big one.

Coffee Shown To Boost Memory
According to a research report released this week there might be yet another benefit to having that daily cup of coffee every morning. Essentially the report shows that for participants that consumed approximately the same amount of caffeine as 1 cup of coffee there was a noticeable improvement of memory functions for both long term and short term. The study participants that received the caffeine were consistently able to outperform the other participants, making it a very real possibility that coffee or other caffeine drinks can have a significant impact.
Obviously one study was not enough to be medically conclusive so multiple follow up studies are being planned at this point. Doctors did not that it was surprising to see that the results were so black and white, making it highly likely that future studies will confirm the results. Many doctors have recommended coffee or similar drinks for patients due to the other various health benefits and now it looks like there is another reason to continue drinking coffee. This is great news for coffee and tea drinkers everywhere, so if you enjoy a little caffeine every morning now is the time to celebrate, you’ve been helping your brain remember things much better than without it.

Exercise During Pregnancy Linked to Baby's Brain Health
Exercising during pregnancy has always been a big mystery to many doctors, essentially no studies have been conducted on this topic so many doctors simply do not have any answers. Fortunately today a medical study was released that sheds some real light on the situation and it turns out that, as many expected, exercising during pregnancy is a very good thing. Surprisingly doctors found a very strong link between the mother’s exercise habits and the newborn’s brain activity, indicating that it is a very good idea to continue exercising.
Surprisingly the study found that exercising for about 20 minutes, three separate times a week was enough to show a significant benefit to the child. Mothers that exercised regularly gave birth to generally healthier babies that had significantly higher brain activity early in life. This is fantastic news because it is a very simple request that can make a huge difference in the life of a newborn. Doctors everywhere are recommending that pregnant women begin exercising or continue exercising because it can have such a profound impact on their child’s health and that is obviously fantastic news. Follow up studies are being planned currently to determine whether certain exercises are more effective than others.

FDA Moves to Remove Trans Fat
Processed foods are obviously a big part of the market and they’re unlikely to go away any time soon, unfortunately they’re also incredibly unhealthy in many cases. The good news is that today the FDA announced that they’re officially proposing new regulations that should dramatically improve the healthiness of processed food as a whole.
Currently many processed foods contain very high levels of trans fats and according to essentially everyone they’re absolutely the least healthy thing that a person can eat. Based on a variety of recent health studies the FDA is concluding that trans fats are not safe for human consumption and as a result they’re proposing to ban them from food entirely. This is absolutely great news because this change alone could have a noticeable impact on America’s obesity problems. Obviously this isn’t enough to completely resolve the problem but doctors, health experts, and everyone else agree that the FDA definitely needs to work hard at making this ban happen.
The FDA is planning to setup a committee to begin weighing the possibilities of banning trans fats and many experts feel that it will likely happen in soon. This is great news for everyone, assuming the ban passes, and it’ll definitely establish a new standard for healthy meal options.

Advocates Pressing for Electronic Cigarette Regulations
The electronic cigarette is being considered one of the best advances in technology to help smokers, despite that there are still some people out there that want to see more regulations, and for good reason. Electronic cigarettes are far and away healthier options than regular old cigarettes but the addiction is still a very real issue for many people. As a result of this many health advocates are beginning to press for tighter regulations, especially in regards to younger people, which is fantastic news.
Currently there is no federal minimum age for electronic cigarettes, although certain states restrict sales, this means that in many cases younger children are getting their hands on the devices. Parents and health experts are fighting to force a nationwide age restriction of 18 to match regular tobacco products and at this point it looks promising, which is absolutely great news. Restricting electronic cigarettes to older users is a good thing, without a doubt, and many electronic cigarette companies have even jumped in to support the cause so it is definitely a step in the right direction. Experts are hopeful that the FDA will begin deliberating these changes in the very near future.

Flu Shots Rolling Out in Large Quantities
Every fall a new flu shot is released to the public in order to attempt to control what could be a potentially huge outbreak. Fortunately most years the flu vaccine is relatively successful and over the past few years they’ve been getting better and better. Obviously improving flu shots is absolutely great news but even better is the fact that more and more people are reportedly getting flu shots.
According to preliminary data this year flu shots have been in much higher demand than usual due to the general public accepting that they’re effective. Many medical experts feel that this is absolutely a step in the right direction because for many years people simply skipped their flu shots because they felt they weren’t effective.
Don’t worry though, just because demand is higher early in the season doesn’t mean it’ll be hard to find a flu shot. Flu vaccine production is at an all-time high and doctors say there will not be any risk of a shortage this flu season. Whether you’re worried about the flu or not it is absolutely good news that more and more people are beginning to be vaccinated and will likely continue to do so for years to come.
