Controversial Drug Linked to Cancer Risk Reduction
A number of drugs that are currently used to treat diabetes has been going through studies and trials recently to determine if they have any additional medical value and according to a report released this week it looks like they might just be the next big thing in cancer treatment. The drugs are all very similar in the way they work and while they’re approved for use, the FDA keeps very tight restrictions on their usage for patients. Due to a number of preliminary studies many medical experts felt that these drugs could have an impact on cancer risk and now they’ve concluded that the drugs do in fact lower the risk of developing cancer in women.
Essentially according to doctors the drugs increase the body’s sensitivity to insulin which can reduce the risk for diabetes, since diabetes is often followed by cancer they believed this could have an impact on cancer development. After months of studies the reports concluded that the drugs did in fact have a measurable impact on cancer rates in women. Obviously it’ll be quite a while before anything like this could become a real, usable treatment, but many doctors are hopeful that this is a step in the right direction for cancer testing.

Exercise During Pregnancy Linked to Baby's Brain Health
Exercising during pregnancy has always been a big mystery to many doctors, essentially no studies have been conducted on this topic so many doctors simply do not have any answers. Fortunately today a medical study was released that sheds some real light on the situation and it turns out that, as many expected, exercising during pregnancy is a very good thing. Surprisingly doctors found a very strong link between the mother’s exercise habits and the newborn’s brain activity, indicating that it is a very good idea to continue exercising.
Surprisingly the study found that exercising for about 20 minutes, three separate times a week was enough to show a significant benefit to the child. Mothers that exercised regularly gave birth to generally healthier babies that had significantly higher brain activity early in life. This is fantastic news because it is a very simple request that can make a huge difference in the life of a newborn. Doctors everywhere are recommending that pregnant women begin exercising or continue exercising because it can have such a profound impact on their child’s health and that is obviously fantastic news. Follow up studies are being planned currently to determine whether certain exercises are more effective than others.

FDA Moves to Remove Trans Fat
Processed foods are obviously a big part of the market and they’re unlikely to go away any time soon, unfortunately they’re also incredibly unhealthy in many cases. The good news is that today the FDA announced that they’re officially proposing new regulations that should dramatically improve the healthiness of processed food as a whole.
Currently many processed foods contain very high levels of trans fats and according to essentially everyone they’re absolutely the least healthy thing that a person can eat. Based on a variety of recent health studies the FDA is concluding that trans fats are not safe for human consumption and as a result they’re proposing to ban them from food entirely. This is absolutely great news because this change alone could have a noticeable impact on America’s obesity problems. Obviously this isn’t enough to completely resolve the problem but doctors, health experts, and everyone else agree that the FDA definitely needs to work hard at making this ban happen.
The FDA is planning to setup a committee to begin weighing the possibilities of banning trans fats and many experts feel that it will likely happen in soon. This is great news for everyone, assuming the ban passes, and it’ll definitely establish a new standard for healthy meal options.

Advocates Pressing for Electronic Cigarette Regulations
The electronic cigarette is being considered one of the best advances in technology to help smokers, despite that there are still some people out there that want to see more regulations, and for good reason. Electronic cigarettes are far and away healthier options than regular old cigarettes but the addiction is still a very real issue for many people. As a result of this many health advocates are beginning to press for tighter regulations, especially in regards to younger people, which is fantastic news.
Currently there is no federal minimum age for electronic cigarettes, although certain states restrict sales, this means that in many cases younger children are getting their hands on the devices. Parents and health experts are fighting to force a nationwide age restriction of 18 to match regular tobacco products and at this point it looks promising, which is absolutely great news. Restricting electronic cigarettes to older users is a good thing, without a doubt, and many electronic cigarette companies have even jumped in to support the cause so it is definitely a step in the right direction. Experts are hopeful that the FDA will begin deliberating these changes in the very near future.

Exercise Proven to Be Effective
Heart disease is a very real problem for millions of people around the world and obviously many major medical research companies have been doing their best to come up with a miracle pill that can prevent all of that. Unfortunately at this point there still isn’t a single piece of medication that resolves all heart disease issues, but the good news is that we do not need one. According to a British Medical Journal study there is no need for a miracle heart disease cure because exercise is already incredible effective.
According to the research, adults receiving adequate exercise every week are much better off than those taking various prescription medications. The results are not exactly surprising to most doctors but they say that this and other similar studies should be a good wakeup call to everyone. Rather than holding out for a miracle drug that cures heart disease doctors are simply sticking with the tried and true philosophy that exercise is the key to success.
Overall this is great news because exercise is simpler, cheaper, and substantially more effective than any heart disease treatment available. If you’re not already getting the exercise you should maybe this will be a call to change things and improve your life.

Twinkies Are Back On Shelves
Not too long ago the world officially lost their only supply at the popular and incredibly unhealthy snack, Twinkies. Due to bankruptcy the Hostess brand and their parent company went out of business which officially ended the product’s manufacturing. Fortunately for the millions of devoted or addicted fans these popular snacks are back. Twinkies might be one of the least healthy snacks on the market but it is a true American legend and it is good to see them back on shelves.
In the long run something like Twinkies and other Hostess products make little impact on the world, but for millions of people it is good to see the familiar brand once again. Hostess and their popular Twinkies snack have been a staple in America for decades and when they went away people simply lost something that may have reminded them of their childhood. It is great to see that the Hostess brand is once again alive and producing these delicious snacks and almost everyone in the United States should be able to find Twinkies on shelves starting sometime this week. Be careful, they’re definitely still unhealthy, but it is good news nonetheless to see such a true icon return to the shelves after a few months of cancellation.

New Stop Smoking Campaign Successful
This week a study released shows some very good news about a potential new campaign to stop smoking. This time the campaign is aimed directly at youth smokers, specifically teenagers and high school students. According to the study, exercising is a highly effective way to get these students to stop smoking.
The theory behind the study was that the nicotine in a cigarette creates a physical buzz that the kids enjoy. Because the students had been smoking for a year or less in most cases they had not become addicted to the nicotine directly but rather the buzz it provided. Heavy exercise was enough to provide that same buzz to the smokers and remove the need for nicotine or smoking.
Obviously this is still just a preliminary study but researchers say it is absolutely great news for smokers worldwide. This could easily be developed into a nicotine and exercise based stop smoking plan that may become the most successful stop smoking system ever. No word on when a follow up study will be conducted but doctors and researchers are hopeful that this will lead to something major. This is absolutely great news for anyone that has ever seriously struggled with stopping a major smoking habit.

Family Meals Linked to Healthy Eating
For years medical researchers have been saying that eating home cooked meals while sitting as a family is important and now there is more research available that confirms this. The research study came out this week and apparently eating family meals has been linked to a number of health benefits in children as young as 4 years old.
The primary benefit of eating home cooked meals with a family is that children see a significant increase in fruit and vegetable consumption which leads to much healthier eating habits. On average children that frequently ate with their family had almost twice as many fruits and vegetables in their daily meals which is obviously very beneficial for the health of a child. Researchers are very happy to find such a strong link between these two factors and as always doctors are now recommending that families take the time to eat home cooked meals together as often as possible.
This is great news for many families because it shows that what they are doing is obviously a good idea. Unfortunately for many busy families eating home cooked meals together is difficult or impossible but hopefully this kind of study is enough to convince them to make a change for the health of their children.

Diet Can Affect Brain Health
A new study released this week shows some promising links between dieting and brain health and doctors say it could be a big deal in the coming years in terms of research and medicine development. Brain health has always been a pretty big deal in terms of research and science so finding a solid link between brain health and another controllable factor is crucial to any sort of major advancement.
This study showed that a proper diet has much more of an impact than just helping people lose weight, it also significantly improved their chances at a healthy brain and healthy brain development. A combination of different vitamins and minerals are apparently the cause of the improvement and doctors say that a healthy and balanced diet will almost always guarantee that patients receive the correct amounts of these various vitamins so if you’re contemplating beginning a new diet this should be enough to convince you.
This is great news overall because it means doctors finally have something to use in the fight against the progressing brain problems we’ve been seeing. Simple vitamins are much more useful and effective than ever thought before so this is just the beginning of what could be a major revolution in the way brain health and various problems are treated and cared for. For now doctors simply recommend choosing a healthy diet as it will not only help your appearance, but it will help your brain significantly as well.

Fish is the Next Big Thing in Brain Health
For years doctors and researchers have been searching for something that would improve brain health and help reduce the risk for a variety of different diseases and they might have finally found the trick. According to a study released this week eating non fried fish may actually be the best thing you can do to help your brain.
The study was conducted at the University of Pittsburgh and according to analysts the results simply do not lie. The study showed that participants that had eaten non fried fish consistently had significantly improved long term memory function as well as a significantly lower risk for Alzheimer’s and other brain issues. This is great news as it means there is finally a starting point for research into what causes these issues and hopefully a potential cure or treatment.
Obviously it is still pretty early in the process to be too hopeful but for now doctors are recommending that people continue eating fish as frequently as possible. In general non fried fish has nothing but positive health benefits and the addition of brain health is just another great benefit of eating fish. Worldwide millions of people may find relief in the fact that their seafood diet is actually quite beneficial in terms of brain health and long term memory development and the good news is, it seems that the effect is fairly quick so eating fish only on occasion can actually make a difference too.
