Astronomers Discover New Earth-Like Planet

This week a group of astronomers released information about a new planet that has been discovered. In the ongoing quest to discover and understand the universe new planets are found relatively often, but it isn’t very often that a planet this similar to Earth is discovered. The new planet might be nearly 500 light-years away, but scientists say it is a pretty significant discovery.

The new planet is named Kepler-186f, and while it is absolutely impossible to reach it scientists say it has plenty of information that could help us understand the origins of the universe. There have been quite a few planets discovered that are similar to Earth, but Kepler is unique in that it has been given a 90% chance of having liquid water. Based on the distance from the nearest star, as well as other factors, astronomers say that Kepler is the most likely planet we’ve found that could be inhabited by life.

This is a very significant scientific breakthrough, and it just goes to show how much research and science are constantly advancing. Additional research is being conducted right now, but it is still pretty impressive to see just how much information we can discern from such a distant planet.

Smithsonian Identifies New Mammal

Smithsonian Identifies New Mammal

This week researchers with the Smithsonian Institute unveiled a newly discovered animal that has shocked the world. The new animal, called the olinguito, was discovered by a research crew and it is quite a big accomplishment. This was the first new mammal discovered in many years and it is one of the largest animals to be discovered in quite a while as well, as a result the Smithsonian Institute is incredibly proud of the discovery.

The new animal was discovered in the jungles of Columbia and Ecuador during a mission that was created specifically in hopes of finding something like it. The olinguito is part of the olingo family and researchers had believed that there was something missing, upon discovering the olinguito they officially got their answer. Overall this is great news because it is a major discovery for the biological world. There are so many unanswered questions in the world and research such as this is constantly going on in order to determine exactly how things have progressed, evolved, and changed in the past. Researchers are incredibly happy to show the world the newly discovered olinguito and it has definitely been getting some serious press coverage ever since it was discovered.

Study Finds Early Autism Warning Signs

Study Finds Early Autism Warning Signs

Autism is a problem that affects millions of families around the world every single year. Due to the nature of autism it is often quite difficult to detect in children until they have reached a certain age and like many illnesses or mental problems it becomes less and less effective to treat as the patient gets older. Fortunately today a study released showed a significant connection between one specific test and early warning signs that point towards autism in children.

Obviously detecting autism is not good news, but the fact that doctors may be able to detect it significantly earlier than before is very good news. The test is remarkably simple according to the report and if future testing shows that it is effective it will likely be implemented by nearly all doctors. The idea is that children exhibit a specific brain function when eye contact is made with others and the study shows that children with autism show a significantly abnormal reaction through brainwaves.

Doctors are still planning and developing a follow up test but they are hopeful that this simple method of detection will work in a majority of cases. Most researchers say that anything and everything they can do to detect autism sooner is good news for anyone and everyone. Doctors are already beginning to implement the test and in the coming months we should begin to see a better correlation between autism and the actual test results so that a more conclusive report can be published.
