Homeless Man Inherits Large Sum of Money

This past weekend a private investigator in Utah delivered some very heartwarming news to a man that had basically no possessions; the man was Max Melitzer and what he found out changed his live drastically. Melitzer was reportedly pushing a shopping cart when the private investigator found him and in the cart was everything he owned; no longer will that be the case though.

Melitzer was told by the private investigator that unfortunately his brother had died last year of cancer, but the upside to the story is that he had left his entire estate to Melitzer. The private investigator did not announce how much money or property was given to Melitzer but he said it was significant and would be more than enough to survive off of for quite some time.

The private investigator has reportedly been searching for Melitzer for nearly 3 months and in that time he went through various different steps to find the homeless man; Melitzer’s extended family is happy to hear that he was found and that the inheritance will finally be finalized following the brother’s death.

A press conference is being scheduled for sometime this week but at this time it is unknown if the family or Melitzer will participate. They have all expressed gratitude to the investigator as well as relief to know that Melitzer has finally received what was rightfully given to him by his late brother that passed away last year.

Couple Gives Back During Honeymoon

Couple Gives Back During Honeymoon-- Credit: MSNBC.com

This coming weekend Ben DiFrancesco and his fiancée, Melissa, will be getting married in their hometown of Philadelphia. Following the ceremony the couple is planning to go on a honeymoon just like most other married couples but this honeymoon will surely be very different from many others.

The big difference is that Ben and Melissa will not be travelling simply for pleasure but also as a way to give back to others who need their help. Ben and Melissa both say that they had been looking for a good way to help with Habitat for Humanity and volunteering in Costa Rica during their honeymoon is what they decided on.

Of course the DiFrancescos are not the only honeymoon couple to do something like this. Habitat for Humanity says every so often a group of newlyweds announce that they will be volunteering as part of their honeymoon and along with that often comes all sorts of monetary donations as well.

Ben and Melissa even found a way to get friends and family involved in the entire ordeal as well. Rather than asking for gifts or money from guests they encouraged guests to either donate money to Habitat for Humanity or even accompany them on their expedition to Costa Rica. According to the couple at least a few close friends decided to step up and join them on the trip to Costa Rica while many more guests made a donation to help out the cause.

NBA Player Auctioning Ring for Charity

NBA Player Auctioning Ring for Charity

NBA Player Auctioning Ring for Charity

This week one very generous NBA player announced that he will be auctioning the ring he won during the 2004 NBA championship. The proceeds from the auction will then go to a charity devoted to raising awareness and money for children dealing with a terminal illness called Batten’s Disease. Batten’s disease affects mainly children and through the years it progresses from minor seizures to blindness and eventually death.

Darko Milicic is the player behind the auction and he has quite a history of being generous when it comes to children’s health. Milicic and his wife first became familiar with Batten’s Disease when they read about a family that was affected by it in his home country of Serbia. Without any hesitation Milicic quickly stepped in and paid for the expensive treatment for the family.

Currently there isn’t much that can be done to fight the disease in many cases; the most popular form of treatment is stem cell treatment that is only available in China. Milicic and the charity he is helping are hoping to raise enough money and enough awareness to someday offer some sort of treatment here in the United States.

The ring auction is not the only money Milicic will be donating to the charity either. Milicic will be hosting a group of parties and NBA events which will donate all proceeds to the charity. Milicic is hoping that some of his NBA friends and teammates will step in and help raise funds for the charity as well, though at this time nothing has been announced.

Haitian Earthquake Survivors Help Japanese

Haitian Earthquake Survivors Help Japanese

Haitian Earthquake Survivors Help Japanese

Very few people know the terrible experience of a massive earthquake so it only makes sense that survivors do their part to help after a major disaster. That is exactly what a group of people from Haiti are doing; following last year’s earthquake they were among the survivors and now they are helping in Japan as well.

The two boys from Haiti were moved to action after seeing what had happened. Despite still living in tents because much of Haiti still is not rebuilt the boys have decided to do what they can to help those affected in Japan.

The two boys are now officially working to collect anything and everything they can to send to Japan to help with the recovery effort. In order to help the boys are selling bracelets to raise funds and right now they have reportedly earned thousands of dollars to send.

No word on what else the boys are hoping to do but they have said repeatedly that they are hoping to expand their plans to raise even more money to send to Japan. The boys are also hoping to find a way to go to Japan and literally lend a helping hand, assuming they can manage to raise enough funds and donations.

Bob Barker Donates Millions to Military Charity

Bob Barker, the always famous television and game show host, has always been considered a great humanitarian. Throughout his career Barker has given millions of dollars to dozens of different charities and it seems that even now that he is in retirement the giving will continue.

Barker announced this week that he would be donating $2 million dollars to a charity dedicated to helping injured soldiers and their families. The donation came during a special ceremony Barker held in order to celebrate and highlight the charity and its cause.

The donation from Barker is not surprising given his past military service. Barker said in an official announcement this week that he felt it was his and other American’s duty to do what they could to help out military families and others in need. Along with his donation he offered words of kindness and encouragement as well which he hoped would bring in donations from millions of fans and supports as well.

The Semper Fi fund has already expressed their gratitude to Mr. Barker for the large donation. At this time they have not announced any special plans regarding the funding though people close to the organization say the organization is clearly very thrilled to receive such a large donation from a high profile celebrity.

Bi-Lo Grocery Starts Program to Help Feed Pets

Donate Dog and Cat Food At Bi-Lo Supermarkets

The Bi-Lo grocery store chain in South Carolina is starting a campaign to help ensure pets don’t go hungry by launching a month-long program to get donations of pet food to give out to needy people.

The “Feed the Love” pet food drive lasts through March 22, with the Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina and several other area organizations as recipients. Another similar drive last year obtained more than 63,000 pounds of pet food in the Southeast.

Animal control officials in the area say those in need often find it hard to afford food for their dogs and cats.

Bi-Lo customers can purchase “Feed the Love” pet food bags for $5. If they do, not only will they get the knowledge they are helping to feed pets, but they will also get a rebate on gas in the store’s Fuelperks rewards program.

Besides assisting the Second Harvest Food Bank, they are also giving food donations to Project Hope in Rock Hill; the Clover Area Assistance Center in York County; Hope of Lancaster (S.C.); the Lancaster Council on Aging; Common Cupboard/Common Heart Mission in Indian Trail; the Salvation Army of Gastonia; Christian Ministries of Lincolnton; and Heartlife Food and Clothing Center in Morganton.

Interested customers should know they can help their fellow neighbors by donating at any of the local Bi-Lo stores.
