Face transplant recipient and furn survivor marry

Dallas Wiens, a face transplant recipient and Jamie Nash, a burn survivor marry

Dallas Wiens was one of the first Americans to receive a full face transplant, needed after a bizarre construction accident in 2008. Saturday, he married Jamie Nash, a woman he met in a burn victims’ support group.

Wiens, from Fort Worth, came in contact with high voltage power lines that caused so much damage, he had no face left. After multiple surgeries, doctors were able to transplant a new face, complete with muscles, skin and facial hair.

Nash, from Garland, suffered her injuries in a fiery car crash that nearly took her life in 2010 in Ennis. Trapped inside her burning car, she was burned on her back, legs and hands.

The couple got engaged this past fall and exchanged wedding vows on Saturday at the same church in Fort Worth where Wiens had been working when he was injured. The ceremony was followed by a reception to which their respective doctors and nurses were invited.

Through a support group for burn victims held at Parkland Hospital, the two met. Nash recalls being drawn to Wiens. She knew from looking at him across the room that there was something special about Dallas.

For his part, Wiens wasn’t interested initially. He had given up on love and being in a relationship and says he didn’t want any part of being in one. That was until Christmas Eve when they sat up talking all night and arranged their first date.

According to Dallas, it was a simple dinner and a movie but for him that was all it took. Both say they have been together every day since that first date.

Nash says she jokingly told Wiens she knew it was love because hadn’t gotten tired of him yet. Together the couple plans to leave the trauma of the pasts behind them. Wiens sees no reason to dwell on it and Nash contends the past burned in the fire and that’s where it should stay.

Together the couple helps balance one another out. Nash’s hands were severely damaged in the fire where Wiens are fine. He lost his sight as a result of his accident but she can see perfectly well.

They see their love story as one of true love and inspiration for others. If love can come to these two people, then it can come to anyone according to Nash.

Supreme Court Likely to Allow Gay Marriage

Same sex marriage is a big issue in the United States and it has been gaining traction for years, unfortunately for a number of reasons there haven’t been any major legal breakthroughs in many years. The good news is that this week the United States Supreme Court officially began hearing the controversial case about the legality of banning same sex marriage. While an official ruling has not been reached, nearly everyone feels that it is almost a sure win for same sex rights.

This is likely to be one of the most ground breaking and revolutionary court cases of the past 30 or 40 years and millions of Americans are hoping to see the courts strike down a ban on same sex marriage. This may not immediately give couples the right to get married but activists say this is absolutely a huge step in the right direction. The official hearings officially ended today so now it is up to the court to come up with a ruling, no word on when that is expected but analyst are incredibly hopeful that the court will stop the ban and bring equality to everyone around the country.

Aged 70, She Found Her Mr Right…and Marriage for the First Time.

StumbleUponShare

Barbara Schultze met the love of her life at 70 years young. His name is Jean-Francois Ramos, he’s 75 and they met on a dating website. He did the whole down-on-one-knee thing and asked her to marry him…in front of her whole family (which looks to be a lot).

Why did she wait ‘til 70? Because she wasn’t willing to be with the wrong person for the sake of a marriage. She said, “You can be far lonelier in a marriage that isn’t working”. It had to be the right person.

Her parents were at the wedding – her dad, 92, and her mum, 93, who really don’t look their age. Oh, and they’ve been married for 71 years. 71 years. That’s great news in itself!

Did you see the look on Jean-Francois’ face when Barbara’s dad offered some marital advice by saying, “don’t let the romance die”?!!! It’s almost like Jean-Francois was thinking, “oh oh, didn’t know I had to do that”. It was probably just coincidence.

Here’s wishing Barbara and Jean-Francois spend the rest of their lives together in totally loved-up wedded bliss.

Gordon and Norma Yeager. Married for 72 years. Die Holding Hands.

StumbleUponShare

Gordon and Norma Yeager were wedded the same day Norma graduated out of high school – on the 26th of May 1939. As you look through the video, the pictures that are shown of them are so beautiful.

Their son said of his mother, “the more she did, the more she smiled.” His dad was the “life of the party”, while his mum was the one that “kept everything together”. They, of course, had their fair share of fall-outs, but they adored each other and adored spending time together.

With a couple that close, who’ve been together for a long time and are elderly, it’s natural to wonder and worry about how one half will cope when the other goes.

His dad is known to have said, “I can’t go until she does ‘cos I gotta stay here for her”. His mother thought the same of him.

Sadly last year, the couple were involved in a car accident. Though they were barely conscious, they held hands in intensive care. Gordon died at 3.38pm. But his heart monitor was still beeping. The nurse there said it was because they were holding hands and Norma’s heart was beating through Gordon which is what the monitor was picking up.

About an hour later, Norma followed her husband of 72 years. They died holding hands.

Gordon was 94. Norma was 90.

At their funeral, they were put in one casket, still holding hands, before being cremated and their family mixing their ashes together — together, as closely as they had been in life.

This is such a lovely story, tinged with sadness, but mostly beautiful. A real-life fairy tale.

Generous Couples Live Happier Lives

Generous Couples Live Happier Lives

A recent study by researchers at the University of Miami some interesting things were discovered about how relationships work out and how well people deal with each other. The results may not be too surprising but they are in fact good news for everyone involved, plus they’re a great way to improve otherwise sad marriages.

The results showed that, in general, couples that were generous lived happier lives in nearly every way than those who were not generous. This generosity is in terms of relationship work, caring, and even monetary generosity in terms of charity and donation. Couples that frequently participated in generous behavior found that they were in fact quite a bit happier overall than they were previously and it definitely shows that it does in fact make a significant impact on people’s lives.

Doctors say that everyone should try to be generous and forgiving in their lives because, as this study shows, it makes a big difference. Along with being happier in their daily lives, generous couples frequently had lower blood pressure and less medical risk overall. The idea may seem strange but science does not lie, a little bit of generosity in any form can and will make a very significant impact on your life and your partner’s life. Generosity is something that should be tried by anyone looking for a little more happiness in their life today, it’s not difficult and it can make a huge difference.

Black Friday Brings Love, Marriage For Couple

StumbleUponShare

True love for couple in Black Friday line leads to wedding.

Black Friday is a day that many shopaholics praise for shopping bargains. However, a couple in Hurst, Texas credits their upcoming nuptials to a chance meeting in line at a Target store on a Black Friday morning three years ago.

Bride and groom-to-be Trevor MacDonald and Jesse Pierfelice were in line next to each other that rainy and cold November morning in front of a Target store in Hurst waiting for a chance to bargain shop. When Pierfelice’s mother dropped her off and she found herself standing behind MacDonald, she first wasn’t sure she liked the guy in line next to her. She told her mom that he looked like a bum and was a bit worried.

However, it turned out that instead, MacDonald was a college student and the two started up a conversation to pass the next few hours until the store opened up for the early morning Black Friday sale. When 6 am finally rolled around, the two were still talking and decided to get each other’s phone numbers.

Sure enough, the two texted and talked to each other the very next morning and so began a courtship over the next two years until MacDonald proposed. Of course, the couple headed over to their Target store where they had met and took engagement pictures to celebrate!

Now, they are getting married this year and say that finding each other on that cold Black Friday morning was the best possible Black Friday bargain that either could ever have found!

Couple Gives Back During Honeymoon-- Credit: MSNBC.com

This coming weekend Ben DiFrancesco and his fiancée, Melissa, will be getting married in their hometown of Philadelphia. Following the ceremony the couple is planning to go on a honeymoon just like most other married couples but this honeymoon will surely be very different from many others.

The big difference is that Ben and Melissa will not be travelling simply for pleasure but also as a way to give back to others who need their help. Ben and Melissa both say that they had been looking for a good way to help with Habitat for Humanity and volunteering in Costa Rica during their honeymoon is what they decided on.

Of course the DiFrancescos are not the only honeymoon couple to do something like this. Habitat for Humanity says every so often a group of newlyweds announce that they will be volunteering as part of their honeymoon and along with that often comes all sorts of monetary donations as well.

Ben and Melissa even found a way to get friends and family involved in the entire ordeal as well. Rather than asking for gifts or money from guests they encouraged guests to either donate money to Habitat for Humanity or even accompany them on their expedition to Costa Rica. According to the couple at least a few close friends decided to step up and join them on the trip to Costa Rica while many more guests made a donation to help out the cause.

Royal Wedding Goes off Without a Hitch

For months people have been anticipating the royal wedding between Prince William and Kate Middleton and that day finally came. The two were married Friday at Westminster Abbey and many say it may have been one of the most watched recent events; millions of people reportedly watched the event from all parts of the world.

Not surprisingly every aspect of the royal wedding was well planned and carefully prepared so everything went off just as perfectly as the royal family could have wanted. Perhaps the biggest complaint people had was that it took William and Kate so long to actually get married.

Kate and William reportedly met over ten years ago while both of them were attending St. Andrew’s University; they have been together for nearly that long as well. Up until the wedding announcement came last year many analysts were concerned about whether the wedding would ever happen; today however Kate and William have proved all the doubters wrong by officially getting married.

Of course the wedding was a traditional wedding ceremony though there was quite a bit going on before and after as well. Much of the world watched all of the events live on TV and they were not disappointed by the beautiful wedding and other festivities. The world as a whole has extended congratulations to the happy couple through the massive fanfare surrounding the event and now analyst say there likely won’t be another royal wedding for quite some time
