Fish Oil Linked to Brain Health

For years now people have been saying that various fish oils are beneficial or healthy for some reason or another. Just this week yet another medical study came out that indicates that certain fish oils are actually even more beneficial than previously expected. In particular the study was focusing on Omega-3 oils and the study showed that consuming the oil regularly can significantly help slow brain aging in patients.

This is absolutely great news because it not only helps keep the brain a little bit younger, it also helps prevent the onset of problems like Alzheimer’s in older patients. Doctors are still studying the findings further but at this point they’re happy to report that there is absolutely a pretty solid link between the oil and the results. The exact amount of Omega-3 oil required to be beneficial is still undetermined but the study is planning to be continued so that doctors can really pinpoint the benefit point. At this time doctors are continuing to recommend Omega-3 oils for patients and they’ll likely continue to do so long after the new findings come out.

This is absolutely another sign of medical advancement that is great news. Only time will tell just how many other benefits Omega-3 oils have but this is definitely a big one.

Blake Visin and his son Tyler wanted to do a little fishing and help out the United Way while they were at it. Neither expected to reel in the 70 lb. blue catfish they caught that day.

Blake Visin work as the director of information technology at ReWa which is the renewable water resource based in Greenville. Each year, ReWa sponsors a fish fry with the proceeds going to help the United Way.

Visin, along with some family members and a few friends, took to the Wateree River in the Lugoff-Camden area to catch what they suspected would be the usual array of flathead and channel catfish. These are the fish most commonly found in the Midlands River. The great blue catfish they landed came as quite a surprise.

The catfish was an amazing sight, once they got him reeled in and he far outweighed anything else caught that day, tipping the scales at an amazing 70 lbs.!

All the fish caught will be used for the fish fry Thursday night but the net yield from Visin’s catch alone is expected to feed more than 100 employees.

The United Way of America is a non-profit organization that has local offices in more than 1300 locations throughout America. Each office determines which charities and community services will receive support from the organization. All money raised in a given location is funneled back into the community. The employees of ReWa are helping create a better community with their fundraising efforts and the 70 lb. catfish is doing his part, too.

Fish Oil Linked to Younger Brain Health

Fish Oil Linked to Younger Brain Health

Doctors have been saying that fish oil is a healthy and useful supplement for a number of reasons and while many of these reasons have not been medically verified, they are generally considered true. Today however a medical study released showed a very direct link between fish oil consumption and brain aging, apparently for a variety of reasons fish oil helps keep the brain younger and more active in patients.

According to doctors a consistent diet high in fish oil helped keep the brain essentially 2 or more years younger than it should be. This is truly incredible as, according to many, it should help increase memory as well as help reduce risk for various brain disorders later in life. The reasons as to why this is happening are still somewhat unclear and as a result doctors are planning on conducting multiple follow up studies in the coming months. Doctors are also hoping to understand a little bit more about why exactly this is happening so that they can somehow manage to increase the effectiveness through medication. This is truly great news for everyone because it is one of the most significant discoveries for brain health in quite some time; it may be a while before we understand exactly why we are seeing this type of benefit but for now doctors are just happy that it is happening.

Fish is the Next Big Thing in Brain Health

Fish is the Next Big Thing in Brain Health

For years doctors and researchers have been searching for something that would improve brain health and help reduce the risk for a variety of different diseases and they might have finally found the trick. According to a study released this week eating non fried fish may actually be the best thing you can do to help your brain.

The study was conducted at the University of Pittsburgh and according to analysts the results simply do not lie. The study showed that participants that had eaten non fried fish consistently had significantly improved long term memory function as well as a significantly lower risk for Alzheimer’s and other brain issues. This is great news as it means there is finally a starting point for research into what causes these issues and hopefully a potential cure or treatment.

Obviously it is still pretty early in the process to be too hopeful but for now doctors are recommending that people continue eating fish as frequently as possible. In general non fried fish has nothing but positive health benefits and the addition of brain health is just another great benefit of eating fish. Worldwide millions of people may find relief in the fact that their seafood diet is actually quite beneficial in terms of brain health and long term memory development and the good news is, it seems that the effect is fairly quick so eating fish only on occasion can actually make a difference too.
