Easier Way To Test For Cancer Now Available

Cancer testing is always a major area of research because in most cases detecting and diagnosing cancer early can significantly improve treatment possibilities. Fortunately this week a medial study published results that indicate there may soon be an entirely new way to test for colon cancer and it is shockingly simple.

The new colon cancer test is significantly more effective than most cancer tests and doctors say that it will likely catch on because it is simple, fast, cheap, and effective. Breathing onto a test pad or machine is all it takes according to the report and based upon chemicals found in the patient’s breath the test can determine whether or not colon cancer is present. It seems farfetched by dozens of medical studies have been conducted to determine the accuracy and effectiveness, so far they’re all seeing the same results.

Doctors are hopeful that this test will roll out onto the worldwide market soon so that more people begin screening for colon cancer. Doctors also say that this is a step in the right direction for a number of reasons, primarily because it shows that with enough research a simple and effective cancer test can be created in many cases. This is great news for the medical industry for sure.

Cocoa Improves Cognitive Abilities

Chocolate and the cocoa bean have been shown to be beneficial multiple times in the past and this week a major medical report shows once again just how beneficial it can be. By testing a number of senior citizens with cognitive ability issues the researchers managed to see a dramatic increase in cognitive abilities when cocoa was introduced.

The actual part of the cocoa bean that did the most was the flavanol, which was directly correlated to the increase in cognitive abilities. The improvement in cognitive functions was surprising according to researchers, and that is absolutely great news for millions of people. Cognitive abilities and skills are some of the most commonly lost abilities among senior citizens which is precisely why this news is so absolutely awesome.

News like this hasn’t come out in a while and many doctors feel that this will absolutely be amazing for seniors and even younger generations. Additional research is being conducted to determine whether some sort of medication could be made to serve the same purpose as cocoa. Additional research is also being conducted to determine whether or not consistent cocoa consumption might prevent the development of cognitive skills failure. Either way it is absolutely amazing news that such an impressive piece of research has come out that is going to drastically improve the lives of millions of older people worldwide.

Research Shows that Anti-HIV Pills May Be Effective

HIV and Aids are a huge issue in the medical world, despite years of research and millions of dollars spent there is still no actual cure or preventative vaccine available at this point. Fortunately research released this week has brought some great news to the world in the form of a potentially effective drug that may prevent the spread of HIV/Aids. The drug is obviously still in development but the current research shows that it is likely to be quite effective in preventing the spread.

The research was conducted at Stanford University and the preliminary test results available now show that the test medicine reduced the chances of contracting HIV by about 50%. This is absolutely great news because it shows that there is in fact progress being made in the area of HIV and Aids research. The vaccine as it is now being considered will likely still be in development for quite some time but the fact that there is solid proof that it is possible is definitely encouraging news for researchers.

Multiple follow up studies are being conducted right now to determine whether or not the pill will actually be this effective in real world scenarios. Experts and medical professionals are incredibly hopeful that it will be as effective as expected and the best part is that researchers hope that at some point it could become a true vaccine that would stop the spread of HIV for good around the world.

Autism Researchers Rapidly Approaching a Potential Cause

Autism Researchers Rapidly Approaching a Potential Cause

Researchers have been out to determine what exactly causes or leads to autism and unfortunately for a variety of reasons they have been less than successful. The good news is that the latest reports indicate that there is actually some progress being made as some researchers may have found an actual link to what leads to autism.

This is great news for everyone because it means that there may soon be an actual treatment or way to prevent autism from developing. Obviously it is more complicated than that but analysts and experts say that this is definitely a step in the right direction. According to the genetic researchers there seems to be a link between mutation in sperm and development of autism. The fact that we might now have a solid link to what might be a cause autism is absolutely amazing news in every way. The next logical step in the research is to try and determine whether some sort of a cure or preventative measure can be developed from this information.

Developing some sort of medicine from this information is definitely still off in the future, but analysts say that it is definitely a very real possibility. If the researchers continue to have the good luck they’ve been experiencing we could see some serious breakthroughs in the development of a vaccine or cure. Autism is slowly being understood more and more and for millions of people it can not come soon enough.

Stem Cell Research Promises Hope for Hearts

Source: Healthyliving.ocregister.com

In the past, patients that suffered major heart damage had no medical interventions that would save their lives besides organ transplantation. But the good news is that the latest news in the fight to treat diseased hearts shows the potential for successful treatment. Stem Cells have been injected into the hearts of people that had suffered major damage to the heart muscle. The result was impressive improvement on the part of the patient.

Stem cell researchers have been touting such potential for years. Scientists in the area of stem cell research have long been hopeful that the use of stem cell treatment will become a major player in the fight to remain healthy and to heal. Stem cells have been shown in the lab to impact damaged tissue, repair or even replace the tissue or organs of those that were unable to repair themselves.

This is the potential of all stem cell research: to repair or replace damaged organs that normally would never become viable. In theory, science suggests that we will be able to replace damaged livers, kidneys, and other tissues and organs in the body.

The most recent study grew stem cells from patients’ hearts after serious and damaging heart attacks had occurred. The heart muscle had become permanently damaged and would be unable to become better or stronger. The prognosis was terminal regardless of the medical interventions used

However, the patients did not perish as expected. Instead, the researchers obtained tissue from the hearts and prepared stem cells from them. The cells were placed into the damaged heart and the heart re-grew viable tissue. The best part is that the cells were the patient’s own so rejection was not an issue.

The patient heart function prior to the injection of stem cells was at an average of 30%, a severely low number. Four months later, the average patients’ heart function had increased to around 38% and at the one year mark, at around 42% – a dramatic improvement.

The research shows that the heart stem cells that had been injected into the patients had grew back healthy cardiac tissue in the severely damaged patients. The damaged heart disease had actually decreased by 30% in a year. Similar results have been reported in other research hospitals to back up this research showing that damaged hearts can potentially be repaired in the future.

Blood Pressure Drugs May Halt The Spread of Breast Cancer

Beta Blocker May Halt Spread of Breast Cancer

In the United Kingdom and across the globe, researchers are excited about the prospect that a common blood pressure medication may halt the spread of Breast Cancer in patients. The Cancer experts are looking to host a major study to evaluate the potential of beta blockers to stop the spread of the deadly disease.

The results of data from over 700 patients in the UK show promise that the drugs  have had an impact on patients. Patients with breast cancer that previously had beta blockers showed one half the incidence of their cancer spreading as women that had not had the medication. Cancer that spreads from the initial area to surrounding tissue carries a higher potential for mortality than those whose cancer has not spread.

Patients with breast cancer have seen the spread of the disease to other parts of the body in about 30 percent of the patients. These 30% account for greater than 85% of the deaths that result from breast cancer, so the findings from the initial studies show promising results.

The United Kingdom plans the extensive study to evaluate the potential effects of beta blockers on the spread of cancer from the Breast into surrounding tissues. The cancer study will evaluate approximately 30,000 patients and expects results next year. Early work on beta blocker show that cancer related deaths decreased by approximately 70%. The researchers hope that the beta blockers will stop the cells from moving which will inhibit the spread of cancer cells.

This study of how blood pressure medication affects breast cancer has had similar results around the world. In Ireland, women that were taking a beta blocker, propranolol were much less likely to have advanced breast cancer than those not on the drug. Women given the drug after diagnosis also fared better. After five years, only nine percent had died compared to twenty seven percent that were not taking the drug.

The doctors at MD Anderson in Houston examined the tumors of women having surgery and did not see an appreciable difference between those on beta blocker and those that were not, however, the women on beta blockers fared better afterward. After three years, eighty seven percent of those on the drugs were alive compared to seventy seven percent not taking the meds. As beta blockers are already a known drug, this development has the potential to save a large number of lives.
