Drugstore Decides to Stop Selling Tobacco
Today CVS, one of the largest drugstore chains, announced that soon they will no longer be carrying tobacco or tobacco products. The announcement came as part of their new push for healthier decisions and overall wellness of their customers and as you can imagine it generated lots of reactions today. Obviously there are lots of reason for a decision like this but as a whole it is being considered an absolutely brilliant step forward and will likely be good news for society and the company.
Smoking and tobacco are becoming more and more of an outcast of society due to various health issues, despite this nearly every large chain store has continued to sell the product. CVS is the first big company to step up and fight against tobacco by stopping sales and many experts are hopeful that this will eventually spread to other major store as well. Either way it is great news to see a large corporation fighting against smoking and tobacco in the strongest way possible. CVS will officially pull tobacco out of their stores nationwide by October 1st, only time will tell if it makes any impact or whether any other companies decide to follow suit.

FDA Hopeful Regarding Radical Breast Cancer Drug
Breast cancer is one of the leading killers in much of the world, it is also the cancer that generally received the most research funding and as such doctors are hopeful there will be a treatment available soon. Well an FDA announcement this week definitely shows that some very positive progress has been made in that regard. According to the FDA, multiple patients that have been given a new drug in a trial run have shown very promising results.
This is absolutely amazing news because it is really the only step towards a successful treatment in the recent future. The drug was designed to be used as a treatment prior to surgery, making it the least invasive option and the results according to doctors were phenomenal. In the multiple trial patients across the United States the new drug was used prior to any type of surgery and it was found that the drug reduced tumor size by a noticeable amount. This is a big accomplishment according to doctors because it greatly reduces to damage when surgery is needed, plus it helps the body recover faster.
At this point the drug is obviously still experimental but doctors are hopeful that this FDA study will lead to more treatments soon. Many doctors are hopeful that a larger study will be conducted sometime this year.

The treatment was developed by the Eli Lilly Company and while it is still likely to be at least a few years before we see public availability doctors are very hopeful that this will in fact soon become a viable treatment method.
The final results of the study showed approximately a 40% increase in survival rate for patients compared to the national average, obviously this isn’t a perfect scenario but as always doctors are working to make things better and better. Lung cancer is a significant killer in America and around the world and the fact that this new treatment might one day become the key to fighting it effectively is absolutely great news.
Medical breakthroughs like this are always good news and doctors are really quite hopeful that this will become a viable treatment in the very near future. Researchers Discover Alzheimer's Detection Method
Alzheimer’s disease has been affecting millions of people every single year and unfortunately there haven’t been many major breakthroughs in terms of treating, diagnosing, or preventing the disease in the past. This week, however, that has changed as a group of medical researchers announced that they may have found what will be the best test for Alzheimer’s in patients.
The studies conducted were focused primarily on brain activity and neurological effects and much to their surprise the researchers found that there are certain traits shown in the brain that eventually lead to Alzheimer’s. This is a major breakthrough because it will make it possible for doctors and neurologists to begin testing for Alzheimer’s in patients well before the onset of symptoms, making treatment much simpler.
This is great news because it means there may finally be a way to diagnose and subsequently prevent Alzheimer’s. It is not a guarantee unfortunately, but doctors say that this link is absolutely enough to at least form a basis for testing and treatment. In the future this discover will then be used to create much more in dept testing and prevention methods that would never have been created without these early detection signs. A follow up study is being conducted to see just how strongly these signals are actually linked to the development of Alzheimer’s in patients.

Yet Another Cancer Breakthrough
Cancer research is at the front of the line when it comes to medical spending and as such it is not that surprising that some significant breakthroughs have been reached. Yet another major breakthrough happened this week as a group of medical researchers discovered what may be the trick to testing and diagnosing pancreatic cancer.
The research, conducted by a number of medical experts, effectively determined the various genetic make up of a number of different pancreatic cancer samples. Like many cancers, pancreatic cancer comes in hundreds of genetic varieties, but because this research managed to completely break them down to the DNA level researchers will now be able to create a relatively effective testing routine from the information.
This is huge news not only for pancreatic cancer, but all cancers, because it will lead the field with new ways to research testing and diagnosis. The genetic sequencing and identification of pancreatic cancer and other cancers will undoubtedly lead to better treatment and medications in the future. This is a major medical breakthrough in a number of ways and nearly everyone in the medical field is incredibly happy to see this happening. Follow up studies are being planned now to determine the best way to use this information, and the same testing routines will likely be translated to other cancers as well, so it is only a matter of time before more big news comes out.

HIV Drug Study Marks Turning Point
A group of medical studies released this week have been making headlines all around the world as they bring an incredibly large promise that may change the world. HIV and AIDS have become major problems in a number of areas and this drug treatment may finally be the answer everyone has been looking for.
The drug system is not a cure for HIV or AIDS, but rather a form of prevention. Obviously current prevention methods are available but this new method is reportedly significantly more effective and permanent in high risk areas. The multiple studies released show that those who took the drug were 62% less likely to contract HIV when put into risky situations.
This may not be a completely effective method but it is by far the most effective medical treatment in development today. Many doctors believe that as this drug becomes available and begins to become more and more common it will be easier to expand and improve so that the effectiveness also increases. This is absolutely amazing news for the world because if the effectiveness improves as expected it could be the end of the HIV virus.
The drug treatment won’t be available just yet, but the good news is that medical experts are pushing for a rush on the release. This drug could be a major turning point in the war against HIV and AIDS and it will likely soon be on the market around the world.

FDA Entering Approval Process for New Drug
For the past six months Pfizer, a leading drug company, has been selling a drug in Europe that treats a rare and deadly disease. The drug has received dozens of approvals around the world and now that it has seen some real world use the drug has finally spread to the United States. Proponents for the drug claim that it could save countless lives each year and as a result the FDA is now entering the first stage of possibly approving the drug for use in America.
The drug treats a relatively uncommon neurological disease but many doctors and analysts feel it might actually be able to treat or reduce the effects of many other similar disease. Pfizer has, for many reasons, been pushing for the drug to be available in America and now that the FDA is looking at it we might be one step closer to making that a reality.
This is great news for thousands of people directly affected by the disease, but more importantly it shows that around the world medical expertise and research is being shared and expanded. Medicines are treating new diseases every single day and as the years pass it is only a matter of time before some sort of viable medicine becomes available for any number of major issue. The FDA has not yet said when they will begin the proceedings but it is expected to begin sometime in the coming month.

Congress Approves FDA Change
For the past few months the United States has been facing a fairly major drug shortage which got one step closer to being resolved this week. Congress officially approved a major bill which will now force companies to alert the FDA of an impending shortage. The idea is that the FDA will either offer support which will prevent the shortage or the FDA will find another solution to replace the drug.
This is absolutely great news for millions of Americans that are affected by drug shortages every year. This new FDA change will now provide support and help to those that often run into shortages and in a short time it will prevent any kind of drug shortage according to Congress.
This is also good news for anyone that might soon need medication because doctors will no longer prescribe the drugs that may soon be unavailable. This should, in theory prevent many of the medical problems people have. This will also help doctors and patients work on finding another solution or medication that will be readily available.
Congress says that this new FDA change should take place in the coming weeks. It will likely take a few months before things become as effective as they’re planning. Assuming this new change does work, it will definitely be great news for millions of people.
