Thousands Receive Jobs After GM Changes Plans

Thousands Receive Jobs After GM Changes Plans

Thousands Receive Jobs After GM Changes Plans

Two years ago in Springhill Tennessee thousands of auto workers received the news they dreaded; General Motors was planning to shut down the manufacturing plant. This was absolutely terrible news for those that needed the income from the jobs to survive but fortunately today they have received some good news. Initially many of the workers packed up and moved to other manufacturing towns but now they are slated to return as GM announced that they would be reopening the plant.

The revival of the Springhill plan brings new life to the town as approximately 6400 jobs have been promised to the area. It is not going to be an immediate revival but GM promises that all of the jobs will in fact be filled in the coming years. As for now, former GM employees are simply happy to hear that they will in fact be able to regain their jobs with GM.

Obviously many of the former GM employees have either moved out of the area, retired, or found entirely new jobs; but for those still interested GM is rehiring everyone that is interested. The hiring is beginning soon and will be based on a number of factors but overall the small town is just happy to see that a giant corporation like GM actually cares enough to hire small town workers. GM is planning to create jobs like this all around the country as well so it could be good news for thousands more people soon.

Potential Grocery Strike Resolved

Potential Grocery Strike Resolved

Potential Grocery Strike Resolved

Much of southern California has been fearing a potential grocery strike which would have essentially shut down thousands of grocery stores and distributors in the area. The strike was originally brought on by the union wanting higher wages and as the negotiations began to fail threats of a strike arose. A strike such as this has not been seen in a heavily populated area like southern California in quite a long time and as a result many analysts were concerned about what might happen.

Fortunately today the union and employers finally struck a deal which will prevent the strike from happening. 50,000 grocery employees immediately rejoiced in the fact that they would not be temporarily losing pay as they were forced on strike and at the same time the general population of California was happy to hear that there would not be any major grocery shortages as originally predicted. Overall everyone won in this situation as the affected employees got what they needed while at the same time the people of California were not severely affected by a major strike.

Analysts had originally feared that there would be as many as 50,000 temporarily unemployed workers should the strike actually happen; there were also predictions that this would have a significant impact on the economy of southern California. Once again everyone involved was simply happy to have found a way to avoid the strike in time to keep everything running smoothly at the grocery stores.

Starbucks Puts Congress And The President On Notice

Starbucks Takes Action

Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz challenged Congress and the President to put aside the partisan politics and take action for the good of the country and the American people. In an open letter, Schultz called upon the leadership of the United States to put aside political differences and work together to return the confidence of the American people to its government. In a letter published in the New York Times, the CEO demanded that the leadership of both political parties sit up and take notice to the demands of its citizenry. Schultz and 100 other business leaders have a signed two-part accord to withhold campaign contributions to either party until transparency and bipartisanship is made apparent with a fair and well rounded debt and deficit package. The group also pledged to take necessary steps to accelerate investments in jobs and hiring. The written pledge is a significant move on the part of top business leaders to invest in America and help put an end to the economic uncertainty.

The President’s speech was well written and focused on creating jobs, but not on reducing debt. 60 % of the cost of the $447 billion dollar jobs bill comes from tax cuts, credits and programs targeting the support of Republicans. The funding needed to pay for it came from spending cuts and closing tax loopholes. The Republican Party must act on creating jobs and being fiscally responsible according to Shultz. If they fail to put citizenship ahead of partisanship, there could be a different party leading the country in the next election. Congressional leaders have been in gridlock over raising the debt ceiling, spending cuts and taxes, but the needs of the American people have gotten lost in the politics. Howard Schultz and the business leaders of America that signed with him know that their businesses depend upon the spending of the American consumer and the consumer depends upon American businesses for jobs.

Shultz and Starbucks represent a business model that is overlooked by the Republican and Democratic Parties; they represent a mixture of fiscal responsibility, progressive social policy and cultural tolerance. Starbucks provided health insurance for all its employees at a time when the business was losing money. Now all workers receive basic health care coverage for only a modest contribution. Starbucks provides a pension and profit sharing program to all employees as well. The call to action to Congress by Starbucks and the other business leaders will certainly demand similar concessions of bipartisanship for the same values demonstrated by Starbucks.

The Business leaders of our country are willing to take the risks needed to bolster our flagging economy and President Obama’s speech reflected that he is embracing the bipartisanship necessary to effect the same change. This is great news for people needing jobs and for the economy.

Government Expected to Boost Job Growth

Government Expected to Boost Job Growth

Government Expected to Boost Job Growth

A new U.S. government project was announced today and despite the controversial topic it seems politicians from both sides of the spectrum are receptive to the project. The so called American Jobs Act is still in the initial planning stages but analysts believe that implementing this plan could easily create millions of jobs nationwide which could significantly help boost the U.S. economic recovery efforts.

The current plan for the American Jobs Act is based on tax incentives and spending assistance for large and small corporations that are actively working to add new jobs to their payroll. At this time there are already provisions in effect but the proposed plan would be significantly more effective according to most politicians

The good news from this plan is that it will make a big difference in terms of economic recovery; no longer will there be an issue of such extreme job shortages and in turn millions of American people will be able to get their lives back on track. No word on when the plan is expected to be voted on or possibly implemented but at this point analysts say there is a relatively good chance of it being put into action sometime soon. Congress is now dealing with the plan that President Obama approved and depending on the results we may or may not eventually get to see the possible benefits of this amazing and likely significant job creation project.

Job Advertisements hit 3 Year High

Job Advertisements hit 3 Year High

Job Advertisements hit 3 Year High

Each month various government agencies publish reports and data on jobs and job availability around the United States; throughout the past few months unfortunately job growth had been performing below the expected rate but today the U.S. Labor Department had some good news to spread. According to the Labor Department the months of July and August saw 3 year highs in terms of the number of jobs posted as available.

Obviously the number of available jobs is not as strong of a positive as the number of new employees but according to officials it is simply good to see companies are beginning to start hiring more people. The availability of jobs has been dramatically low for nearly all unemployed people but now that job postings are getting more common some of them finally have hope.

In July alone a reported 3.2 million jobs were posted as available; this is a significant increase from previous months and analysts say this growth will likely continue for the rest of the year. Hopefully following the increase of job postings the United States will also see an increase in the number of jobs being filled. For now it is good to see an increase in available jobs and job postings especially since the likely follow up is a significant decrease in the unemployment rate nationwide. More reports like this are expected towards the end of the next few months as more data is complied.

Small Businesses Showing Growth

Small Businesses Showing Growth

Small Businesses Showing Growth

The United States economic situation has been recovering slowly according to many analysts but today a report released by Intuit indicates that one specific part of the private sector seems to be leading much of that recovery. According to analysts jobs overall have been increasing in nearly all parts of the United States but recently small businesses have been making the biggest difference.

Due to the economic downturn many companies and businesses were forced to let go many employees to save money; the fact that small businesses are hiring once again is a very good sign according to leading analysts. Small businesses, particularly those with under 20 people, have been hiring at nearly double the rate they had been before which means they are surely seeing some sort of recovery from the economic downturn.

According to the study small businesses have increased their number of jobs by approximately 1% which is an astonishing number according to analysts. Even a fraction of a percentage increase would be a significant jump according to economic analysts from all around the US but the fact that the number of jobs available increased 1% in a year means the economic growth is expanding to small businesses quite rapidly.

Along with this increase of jobs these small businesses are also reportedly spending more money; all of these factors combine indicate that the economic growth is solid and consistent which is very promising for the United States and worldwide economic recovery efforts.

Jobs Increase Substantially

Jobs Increase Substantially

Jobs Increase Substantially

In times of economic turmoil it is somewhat uncommon to have any sort of good news surface. Fortunately the report on unemployment for March indicates that good things are in fact happening within the economy. More specifically unemployment is declining as more and more jobs are being created by various industries.

According to the U.S. Labor Department approximately 260,000 jobs were added last month alone, which is a significant increase overall. Of course there were hundreds of thousands of jobs eliminated last month as well but in the end the number of new jobs was greater than the number of jobs lost.

Not only was March a very successful month for employers, February was just as good. Two months in a row with substantial job increases has not happened since 2006 and many experts say it could be a sign that the economy is finally beginning to recover.

The U.S. Labor Department and other analysts also agree that the consistent increase in jobs will likely continue for the rest of 2011. What this means is that by the end of the year unemployment will likely decrease by another percentage or two. Currently unemployment is at a 2 year low of 8.8% and by the end of the year it is expected to be even lower. In the coming weeks more announcements about the economic situation are anticipated and overall analysts and economists say they should all carry plenty of good news about the current state of the U.S. economic situation along with the worldwide economic situation.

Women Pledges $250,000 to Help People With Asperger’s Find Work

Women Pledges Money for Jobs for Asperger's Patients

It’s not many people who would donate a $250,000 severance check to charity in this day and age of unemployment, but Marcia Scheiner didn’t hesitate doing so after receiving that check from a New York financial services company after she had worked there for 25 years.

Scheiner is leaving her generous gift to the Asperger Syndrome Training & Employment Partnership, a nonprofit organization she organized to help young adults with Asperger syndrome get a job.

The organization was inspired by her son, who is in his first year of college. Scheiner said that a whole generation of young adults with Asperger’s who are between 20 and 30 years old are heading to college, but may still face high unemployment rates.

Data from the National Institutes of Health estimates that two out of 10,000 children have Asperger syndrome, which exists on the autism spectrum of disorders, but wasn’t well known until the 1980s.

There is no actual cure for it, but there are effective therapeutic treatments that help people with Asperger’s live independently. However, due to some of the symptoms of the disease, such as problems with forming a relationship and the inability in some cases to look someone in the eye, sometimes causes them issues in getting hired, according to Scheiner.

Scheiner and her organization plan to focus on teaching employers how to understand Asperger’s patients better and show them what type of accommodations need to be made, such as providing and promoting training colleagues so if they can understand any Asperger behaviors and know how to respond to them.

Scheiner says people with Asperger’s are usually very loyal and focused employees who tend to stay in an entry level position longer than most college grads.

She added that hiring more people with Asperger’s can also help companies meet their diversity targets and meet their social responsibility agendas.
