Coffee Drinkers See Lower Risk of Death

Coffee has always been staple drink for millions of people around the world for a number of reasons. The caffeine also made it more popular with workers, students, and everyone else but now researchers say that it might have even more benefits than previously though. According to the research elderly coffee drinkers have noticeably lower risk of death.

This is absolutely amazing news because it may show just what it takes to help people live longer. Researchers say that there are still plenty of factors to consider but the results don’t lie, study participants that drank coffee consistently showed significantly lower death rates over the 14 year period.

Doctors don’t yet know what exactly it is about coffee that may be extending the lives of senior citizens, but they say that the results are great news to start with. Follow up studies are being conducted right now to determine what it is exactly in coffee that is making the biggest impact and researchers are hopeful that this will bring good news to the medical industry.

If you’re already a coffee drinker then obviously there isn’t really any reason to stop, and many doctors are even saying it might be worth starting simply because it definitely appears to be connected to health. Coffee might just have more positive effects then ever considered which is without a doubt great news for the millions of people that drink it every single day.

Paying It Forward at the Coffee Shop

Cup of Coffee

Cup of Coffee

It’s not often you hear of random acts of kindness  but when you do, it can warm your heart like a hot cup of coffee takes the chill off of a winter day and that is just what is happening in Bluffton, S.C.. At one coffee shop, random acts of kindness are practically a menu item.

Corner Perk has been doling out inspiration along with the coffee thanks to the generosity of some do-gooders for two years and the trend is catching on. Thanks to one customer, just an average person who started the ball rolling with a $100 bill, others are following suit.

“It’s someone that just has a kind heart and wants that to generate in this area,” Josh Cooke, owner of Corner Perk explains. “People will come in and say, ‘What do you mean? I don’t understand. Are you trying to buy me a coffee today?’ “And I say, “No, somebody came in 30 minutes ago and left money to pay for drinks until it runs out.”

At a time when many are eking out a living, the pay-it-forward gesture can really put a bright spot in their day. Others have joined in since that first anonymous female donor made the first contribution two years ago. Customers who have heard about the kindnesses at the shop want to participate and will leave extra money for the next customer’s bill. Even strangers have been known to come in and leave a donation without buying anything themselves.

What do the customers think?

“It made my day, it really did. It made my day,” customer Michael Aldea said.

“When I went to go pay, they said ‘Oh, it’s paid for. Somebody paid it forward,’ “customer Sheri Buda said.

“It’s very inspiring to just see someone living out what so many of us talk about, and doing things  for other people,” customer Jenny Dolin agreed.

The donors never leave a name, just the cash and a much needed jolt of inspiration in a community, like so many others, trying to get by. Paying it forward is becoming contagious here and compassion, not coffee, is perking people up at Corner Perk.

Daily Coffee Consumption Lowers Cancer Risk

Daily Coffee Consumption Lowers Cancer Risk

Daily Coffee Consumption Lowers Cancer Risk

Researchers released a study today which shows that coffee may have more health benefits than previously thought. Doctors already knew that moderate coffee consumption was beneficial in multiple ways but this latest study shows that it can even help reduce your risk for skin cancer. According to researchers nearly 1 million Americans get basal cell carcinoma every year and apparently a moderate and consistent coffee consumption routine can help reduce this risk.

Amazingly the research also confirmed that there is not a specific point at which the effect becomes less noticeable; more coffee consumption apparently means more protection from skin cancer, the protection seems to just continue to increase with consumption. Unfortunately coffee did not have an effect on the other prominent types of skin cancer but it is still promising that there is an effect at all.

The study was conducted using an incredibly large sample size and doctors say that the results are definitely solid. The exact reason for coffee seems to reduce or eliminate the risk for specific types of skin cancer are completely unknown, of course there are follow up studies planned that will likely pinpoint exactly what in coffee is helping eliminate the risk. For now doctors are continuing to encourage patients to consume coffee in moderate amounts simply because the number of health benefits linked to coffee and continuously growing as more and more are being discovered through extensive research and testing around the world.

Coffee Linked to Anti-Depressant Effects

Coffee Linked to Anti-Depressant Effects

Millions of people drink coffee consistently every single day of the year and despite the high caffeine levels in coffee it seems there may be some additional health benefits that nobody knew about before. Coffee has successfully been proven to have a significant impact on depression in women that drink between one and three cups a day which means millions of women worldwide are feeling some positive benefits from coffee.

Depression and coffee are an unlikely connection according to many health experts, especially since caffeine usually has the opposite effect. According to the researchers there is clearly some chemical found in nearly all types of coffee that help reduce stress while also reducing the risk for depression. At this time additional research is being done to determine exactly what that chemical is but for now it is simply amazing news that coffee has this effect on women.

Of course there is a limit at which the benefits wear off according to researchers. More than 3 or 4 cups of coffee per day can reduce or eliminate the anti-depressant effects of the coffee. Because of this it is suggested that women try to stay between one and three cups per day in order to minimize depression. More research is being conducted to see if the coffee has a similar affect on men but at this point it is still too early in the study for researchers to know if the results will carry over or not.

Does Coffee Have An Affect On Heart Disease?

A new study which involved almost 12,000 American nurses with a history of either heart disease or stroke has concluded that women with heart disease who consume a few cups of that fine old brew every day are no more likely to die than non coffee drinkers during the 20-year study period.

This makes caffeine and whatever risks it may or may not have still a gray area for researchers. The results of the study were published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition. Researchers are aware that clinically speaking, coffee can still cause problems because the caffeine can raise blood pressure or otherwise negatively affect the human cardiovascular system.

Other studies have indicated that coffee is more protective than detrimental, and still others suggest that coffee drinkers who have had one heart attack have no increased risk of either premature death or a second heart attack.

This study needs to go further and research other populations and their exposure to caffeine. The fact that all the participants were nurses also makes the research not representative of women in general with heart disease.  Still, the study does offer happiness to coffee lovers as it supports the idea that people with heart disease who already drink coffee do not have to give it up.

Still in all, this is good news for lovers of java.

So have another cup and keep drinking it until the next study tells you that you can’t (and maybe even after that, too).

Coffee Reduces health Risk

Coffee Reduces health Risk

A medical study released this week indicates that the morning beverage choice for millions of people may actually have some hidden health benefits too. The beverage in question is coffee and amazingly doctors say it could seriously reduce risk for prostate cancer.

The study was conducted using statistics from nearly 50,000 men and after the results were compiled the researchers had trouble believing what they had found. Amazingly men who drank 6 cups or more of coffee every day were approximately 60% less likely to die of prostate cancer at any point in their lives.

Of course the study didn’t stop there; the good news is that basically all varieties of coffee are effective at reducing prostate cancer risk. The study shows that decaffeinated coffee in particular offers essentially the same exact results as regular coffee. Drinking less than 6 cups per day also had a significant impact though the reduction in prostate cancer risk is not as great for those who drink less coffee each day.

Researchers say that possibly the most intriguing thing that came out of this study is that they are unsure what causes the difference. They say there could be a variety of chemicals and natural minerals present in coffee that reduce the risk for prostate cancer but at this time they are not sure what causes it. A follow up study is likely being conducted to determine what exactly causes this health benefit so that it may later be used as a treatment of some sort.
