Facebook Working to Stop Suicide

Suicide is a very real issue for thousands of people. Many people suffer in silence and when they finally cry out for help things are often either ignored or misunderstood. Because social media like Facebook has become so popular it only makes sense that some people would cry out for help through something like Facebook and now Facebook is going to offer a new suicide prevention system to help out.

Facebook, along with the U.S. Surgeon General, is going to allow and encourage users to report any and all suicidal posts so that the person can get the help they need. Facebook hasn’t said exactly how the system is going to work but they have made it clear that every report will be dealt with quickly and abuse of the system will not be tolerated.

The fact that a massive network like Facebook is going to reach out and help with such a serious issue is great news. Suicide prevention is often possible if just one person intervenes and now that Facebook is making that possible many experts hope there will be a noticeable impact. Facebook is hoping to get the system operational as soon as possible although they have not yet said when that will be. Facebook will likely make an official announcement once the system is in place and ready to go.

Cancer is one of the most devastating things that can happen to a person. Regardless of what type of cancer or how significant the case is cancer is an absolutely awful problem. Children who routinely exercise are frequently much better in school than their counterparts for a variety of reasons and a study released today confirms that belief. The study shows that children who exercise either at recess, playtime, or at home are significantly more likely to do well in school for a number of reasons. Of course healthier living is also associated with it say researchers which is very good news for thousands of people.

Exercise is an important part of everyone’s lives and doctors say that many people, including kids, simply do not get enough exercise which may also be why so many kids do poorly in schools. Doctors are now recommending that parents encourage their children to exercise and eat healthy both for health reasons as well as educational reasons. Researchers say that children are likely more motivated and more energized in school when they frequently exercise which is the most likely reason as to why there is such strong correlation. Many officials are encouraging schools to begin new physical education programs that promote exercise and wellness in order to improve school performance as well as children’s health. A follow up study is planned into if there is actually a chemical link between exercise and school performance but for now most people are simply happy to see that there is a solid link between exercise and school. This is great news as it means parents have more reasons to encourage children to be healthy.

Internet giant Amazon is hiring 1500 people from Bradley County and Chattanooga Tennessee. The internet retailer settled on the Chattanooga area for two distribution sites and has offered jobs to approximately 1500 locals from Bradley County and Chattanooga. Applicants from several local counties have lined up to apply for the open positions. Construction began in 2010 and Amazon was eager to complete construction to be ready for the holiday season in 2011.

Amazon began a fast track to ramp up the new distribution centers and has received more than 6000 applications to date. Local officials say the hiring effort is the quickest undertaken by a company doing business here. Amazon began taking applications for the bulk of its work force in mid-May.

The new distribution centers in Hamilton and Bradley counties are breathing a new spirit into the area.The centers can help to provide jobs to almost 10 percent of the unemployed workers in those counties. With the economy what it has been nationally, a boost ofapproximately 1500 jobs will give the local economy a shot in the arm. That is a huge relief to the areas local families as well as the economic developmentof the area.

The local Community College is playing a role by being the place for Amazon.com to hold the five week long interview process at Chattanooga State Community College. The college was able to offer additional services such as security and food for which it was compensated by Amazon. Chattanooga State’s plans to offer a complete solution that includes personnel training that will likely begin next year. Chattanooga States’ aim is to offer “a turnkey solution”to businesses.

Amazon is investing about $139 million dollars in both centers and plan to employ 1,600 full time people and as many as 2,000 part timers, which according to Amazon, the first group will begin work this month. This is an incredible boost to the local economy says local leaders. The Bradley County center is scheduled to open immediately and the Chattanooga center soon afterwards.

Amazon has stated that the local support for the project has been very helpful to the company. Amazon has said most of the new hires will start at more than $10 anhour. For permanent employees, Amazon offers variable cash pay for performance and some restricted shares. For Amazon, this means new and excited workers grateful to be employed and for Chattanooga and Bradley County, it means a welcome influx of cash and ancillary revenue.
