Florida Couple Rescues Thousands of Greyhounds

Florida Couple Rescues Thousands of Greyhounds

Greyhounds are commonly used for racing in many parts of the world so it is not surprising to hear that they are often mistreated. Fortunately there are dozens of well meaning people out there that help out and rescue as many of these troubled dogs as possible. One such group of people is making news this week for their amazing story; a couple from Florida that has rescued thousands of these greyhounds.

It is not uncommon for couples and dog lovers to rescue multiple greyhounds in need of a loving home but this Florida couple went above and beyond. Dennis and Claire Tyler successfully rescued over 7,000 greyhounds in the past 15 years and amazingly they have been successful in finding homes for each and every one of the dogs. The Tyler’s truly are a unique couple in that they simply never stop giving back and doing what they feel is right.

Like so many other dog rescuers the Tylers are often forced to drive cross country to find a home for the numerous dogs they rescue. Quite frequently the couple drive thousands of miles simply to pickup or give away yet another abandoned greyhound and despite the cost and the time commitment the couple say it is entirely worth it. This is a heartwarming story in all senses of the word and that is exactly why the amazing story of the Tyler’s dog rescue operation is such a popular story online right now.

Bystanders Save Man from Under Burning Car

Bystanders Save Man from Under Burning Car

Bystanders Save Man from Under Burning Car

A fiery and amazing rescue was caught on camera this week as a group of bystanders banded together in order to save an injured and trapped motorcyclist. The miraculous rescue took place after the motorcycle and vehicle apparently collided; the motorcycle rider was trapped underneath the flaming BMW and if it had not been for the bystanders he would have likely died in the accident.

The most amazing part of the entire ordeal is that video footage is available of the entire rescue. As many as half a dozen people began to lift and push the flaming vehicle and as more help piled in the group of people began to make some progress. After a few seconds of heavy lifting the flaming vehicle was lifted off of the injured motorcyclist so that another man could pull him out from under the car.

The injured motorcyclist was immediately rushed to a local hospital with burns and some minor bumps but officials say he is in stable condition and will undergo a complete recovery. He has not publicly commented but emergency response crews said that had it not been for the help of the bystanders the man would have been significantly more injured as the fire continued to spread.

Check out the video below to see the miraculous rescue take place; it is not every day that such an amazing rescue is organized by random bystanders and it is even less common that the entire thing is captured on camera for the world to see.

Man Jumps Into Moving Jeep to Rescue Driver

This week a man in Atlanta is making headlines for his incredible act of bravery and skill when he took command of an out of control situation. The act of heroism was shocking not only to bystanders but to police and officials as well; Michael Perry heroically jumped into a moving Jeep in order to take control from the driver that had blacked out. In the process Perry risked his life to save a stranger and it paid off in the end.

The Jeep’s driver, Christopher Sanders, apparently blacked out after having a random seizure while driving home from work. Fortunately Perry was nearby and was quick enough to park his car and catch up to the moving vehicle in order to apply the brake and save the man from imminent danger.

Those who first reported to the scene say it was an absolute miracle that Perry was able to dive into the moving vehicle and stop it before it made impact with a guardrail. Perry was slightly injured in the heroic move but he says it was absolutely worth it to potentially save another man’s life. In the end Perry says he is glad he took the risk he did as Sanders was definitely very appreciative of his efforts. Sanders is undergoing further medical evaluation but doctors say he will be fine as he suffered no actual injuries from the entire incident; no word on what caused the seizures either at this point.

Man Revived After 96 Minutes Thanks to New Technology

Today the miraculous story of how paramedics saved a man’s life using new technology broke. The original incident happened in January but thanks to new health guidelines released this week the story is once again in the headlines. In January Howard Snitzer’s heart stopped due to a heart attack and if it had not been for a new technology called capnography experts say there is no way Snitzer would have survived.

What made Snitzer’s story so unique is that his heart had stopped for over an hour and a half but the paramedics knew to continue working on him because their capnography machine showed he had a chance of survival. The capnography system is able to monitor carbon dioxide in a person’s breath to show the chances of survival as well as help medical teams determine what exactly is the problem. The paramedics that responded to Snitzer were reportedly some of the first to have the new technology and they say without the machine they would have been forced to give up on Snitzer well before the one hour mark.

This week the American Heart Association recommended that all medical personnel and emergency staff members have access to a capnography machine because it really can make the difference between life and death. All across the country capnography machines are becoming more and more popular thanks to the life saving benefit proved by Mr. Snitzer’s amazing story of survival.

Antonio Diaz Chacon made news headlines this week when he chased down a kidnapper and rescued the girl he had kidnapped. Today Chacon is in the news once again as his good deed is being rewarded by dozens of strangers who didn’t even know him.

According to officials Chacon has received hundreds of emails, phone calls, and letters in the mail asking if they can give him gift cards, cash, and other donations. So many people were so surprised by his brave effort to save the 6 year old girl that they are trying to reach out and reward him for his good deed. Chacon insists that he was simply in the right place at the right time and that he is not really a hero; thousands of parents in the area disagree and claim he is in fact a hero for his actions.

The fact that so many people are willing to reach out and reward Chacon for his actions are showing people that there are still plenty of good people out there. At this time Chacon has not said if he is accepting or even wanting any of the rewards, he has simply said that he was just doing the right thing by chasing down the kidnapper and rescuing the young girl. It is not every day that the general public offers a reward like this to someone so it is quite clear that there are still plenty of good people in the world that are willing to reward someone for their good deeds.

The whale was suffering and was on the verge of drowning when Fishbach and his friends came upon the whale but thanks to their heroic efforts the whale was eventually cut free and thus rescued.

Dog found in Burnt Home After Being Alone for a Month

Dog Found in Burnt House

Dog found in burnt house

On Monday night, Terisa Acevedo drove back with friends to shut off the truck alarm at her condemned house. Neighbors had called to complain. While standing on the porch she heard scratching at the door. She was amazed to find her dog Lola who had disappeared on February 23 when a fire gutted the Hyde Park Duplex in Boston.

On Feb 23, Terisa wasn’t at home when the fire started. The home was destroyed and Lola was missing. Police even took dogs through the house but they did not find Lola. Terisa put out fliers and contacted all animal shelters but to no avail.

Apparently, Lola had been living in the house for the entire month that she had been missing. She was very skinny after 27 days with limited food and water. Staff at Boston’s Angell Animal Center found that she was several pounds to light when she was brought in but that she had eaten recently.

Lola had no smoke damage to her lungs but is suffering from re-feeding syndrome. This means that it will take time to reintroduce her to food. She got her first meal yesterday morning to start her on the road to recovery. She is currently being fed 16 grams of wet food every 6 hours to reintroduce her body to nourishment.

If all goes well Lola can go home on Thursday. Terisa and Lola are very happy to be reunited and this is an amazing story of courage and never giving up for both of them.

New Hampshire Dog Rescued After A Year

New Hampshire Dog Rescued After A Year

New Hampshire Dog Rescued After A Year

A 3-year old black Labrador mix named Gypsy Girl was found living on a creek bank among cats on Friday in New Hampshire. She was adopted by a family in March of 2010 then slipped her collar and had been living on the streets for a year when she was spotted.

Gypsy Girl is originally from Alabama and has a bit of a wandering spirit. The family who adopted her looked for her for a little while and then gave up. Gypsy Girl wasn’t seen again until a year later when she was spotted by an employee of Kitty Angels. Kitty Angels is a non-profit organization that works with feral cats.

The sighting of Gypsy Girl living on the creek bank with several cats was reported to the Granite State Dog Recovery Center who then set a trap to catch the stray dog. It took 11 days of watching her and baiting a kennel with food to catch Gypsy Girl.

Finally, on day 12, she couldn’t resist a dish with marrow bone in it and rescuers were able to bring her into the humane society of greater Nashua for treatment. Other than being treated for Lyme disease Gypsy Girl is happy and seems glad to be found.

The dog had been living in the wooded area around Nashua county with no human contact whatsoever for over a year.

Gypsy Girl is very friendly and was giving kisses to the rescuers and wagging her tail as soon as she was found. Since her former family abandoned her, she will be put up for adoption soon. She will have to go to a home that is experienced with dogs however as she will try to escape if she can and is full of wanderlust.

Elderly Woman Found Alive in Her Own Home

Elderly woman freed

Elderly woman freed

Amid all of the disaster that has Japan struggling back to its feet an elderly woman was found alive in her home 4 days after the tsunami struck.

The 70-year old woman was found still in her house, which had been washed away in the aftermath of the 8.9 magnitude earthquake that rocked Japan 4 days ago. The house was swept away when the tsunami crashed into her home in Iwate Prefecture in Northeastern Japan knocking it off its foundation.

She is suffering from hypothermia but rescue workers report she is stable and hopes to make a full recovery. Rescue workers declined to reveal the woman’s name only saying she was conscious when they found her. Later it was determined that the woman who was rescued is Sai Abe. Her son shared his relief that she was found alive but was still disheartened because his father has still not been located.

With the death toll still unknown in Japan, this was a much needed and welcome bit of news to the devastated citizens and rescue workers working to find other survivors. Japan still struggles to find survivors in the aftermath of this heart-breaking disaster. While 100’s of thousands live without electricity, food or water rescue workers are doing all they can to help locate more survivors like Sai Abe.

Now citizens are dealing with the nuclear threat that the earthquake has caused. Stories like this about a 70-year-old woman who made it against all odds have heartened the people of this destroyed country.
